And in an area as large as Cincinnati, some guys may get lost in what is a very large prep scene. Here Prep Hoops takes a look at the top unsigned guards in the Cincinnati area. There is some very good talent in this area as you can see from this group of players.
Kenny Thompson- 6’2 G Walnut Hills High School: Kenny was highlighted in our Super Six Transfer article from November and has lived up to that potential so far this season. The athletic combo guard is averaging 12ppg to go along with 7 rebounds and 3 steals per game. Thompson has the potential to be an elite defender at the next level with his length and athleticism and is an excellent finisher in transition. Thompson so far has interest from schools in the Big South Conference along with interest from several D-II and JUCO schools.
Jacob McElfresh- 6’1 G Clark Montessori High School: After sitting out his junior season Mr. McElfresh has come back with a vengeance for his final season with the Cougars. So far this season Jacob is averaging 22ppg with a shooting line of 48/41/88. McElfresh has the ability to light it up from deep while also possessing the athletic ability to get in the paint and finish at the rim. What coaches in the area also like about McElfresh is that he plays hard on both ends of the court and gives a solid effort every night. Right now McElfresh is receiving D-III interest from the likes of Mt. St. Joseph in Cincinnati along with Bluffton University in Bluffton, OH and a host of NAIA schools.
Alex Dahling- 6’2 G Summit Country Day: One of the better shooters in the Cincinnati area, Dahling is off to an outstanding start to his final season at Summit. So far this season Dahling is averaging 17ppg to along with 2 steals with a shooting line of 53/53/88. Dahling steps into the gym prepared to shoot and has improved his ball handling skills over the past couple of years as well. Dahling right now holds an offer from D-II Malone University in Canton, OH. Other D-II schools to show interest in Dahling include Nova Southeastern and University of Tampa among others. Dahling also has D-I interest from Cleveland State along with Tennessee State.
Sam Martin- 5’10 PG Summit Country Day: Martin teams up with the before mentioned Dahling to form one of the better backcourts in the Cincinnati area. Martin, who is also one of the top soccer talents in the area, is averaging 16 points and 3 assist per game so far this year with a shooting line of 60/44/85. The senior guard is very crafty guard who does a good job of creating scoring opportunities for his self while also having the ability to setup teammates and can also be a terror on defense in particular when picking up an opposing guard full court. Martin right now has interest from D-II Malone University along with interest from a host of D-III schools including University of Chicago.
