Here’s a look at some of the top 15U bigs in Lincoln last weekend (in alphabetical order):
Javar Galbraith, forward, MPJ Elite:
Galbraith is a solid 6-foot-4 power player. His physicality translates in the post, on the run in transition, and at the rim. He is athletic, able to maneuver for rebounds or to get shots in the lane. He is skilled enough to rip down a board, push it full court himself, and finish with authority.
Kyle Jorgensen, center, Minnesota Chill:
Jorgensen is a big, but highly-skilled 6-foot-6 beast in the lane. He has advanced post moves and great hands. The little things he does include denying passes into the post and battling for position. He blocks shots and clogs up the lane.
Quientan McCafferty, center, SAL Elite:
McCafferty is a 6-foot-9, well-built post with great hands and very advanced skills. He makes good moves in the lane that force opponents into a ton of fouls. At the line, McCafferty is money on free throws, showing that he has good form and nice touch. He blocks a lot of shots with his long arms and nimble feet.
Camden Phipps, center, South Dakota Network:
Phipps is a 6-foot-5 post who can do the versatile things like putting the ball on the floor on the drive and knocking down the 3-pointer. But he is really skilled at the traditional post plays, making nice turnaround jumpers and hooks, finishing with both hands. He is a powerful rebounder who moves and muscles for position. And for his size, he runs the floor really well for his high-octane club.
Jamarrion Pittman, forward. Columbia Supreme:
Pittman is a really solidly built 6-foot-1 forward who makes a lot of plays around the rim. He uses his power and surprising agility to make moves in the lane and get shots off or dish to teammates. Pittman isn’t shy of contact, getting a lot of ‘and 1s’ and tough guy plays. He has nice skills, good hands, and the ability to find openings.
