Joe Wieskamp (Muscatine) — 50 points on 16-20 FGs (9-11 3s), 8 rebounds, 3 steals
For the second time this season we have a 50-point game, and this one was from the state’s best player. The future Iowa Hawkeye sent Twitter ablaze on Tuesday night when he scored exactly 50 points in three quarters against Burlington on 16-20 shooting and 9-11 3s. He added 8 rebounds and 3 steals for good measure.
Grant Garwood (Urbandale) — 18 points, 12 rebounds, 6 assists, 3 blocks
This kid is getting exponentially better, and just a sophomore, he’s establishing himself as one of the state’s best and most versatile players. A 6-foot-6 forward, Garwood can do a little bit of everything, and he showcased that in this performance last Tuesday against Ankeny.
Seth Weiland (West Hancock) — 12 points, 14 rebounds, 5 assists, 3 steals, 6 blocks
One of the very few threats in the state who could piece together a quadruple-double, Weiland was everywhere for the Eagles last Tuesday night in a win over North Iowa, Buffalo Center. Even if he’s not scoring in bunches, he’s impacting the game in major ways.
Arturo Montes (Grand View Christian) — 24 points on 11-13 FGs, 15 rebounds, 5 assists
Seemingly every player on the Thunder is capable of putting up monster numbers on any given night. Last Tuesday night it was this 6’5 forward’s turn. The efficient shooting was most impressive. Look for many more night’s like these over the next two-and-a-half years for Montes.
Connor Conrad (Holy Trinity) — 40 points on 10-13 FGs (6-7 3s, 14-15 FTs), 8 rebounds, 6 steals
There’s been several 40-point games already this season, and Conrad is the latest to join the club. When you knock down 6-7 3-point attempts it helps, and the 6 steals surely led to some extra points as well.
Tristen Kautman (MFL-Mar-Mac) — 37 points on 14-19 FGs (6-9 3s), 3 assists, 3 steals
High scoring on very efficient shooting and some nice defensive numbers to boot, Kautman is averaging 20.4 points per game this season and leads his team in assists and steals. This was his best game of the season so far.
Dillon Faubel (Treynor) — 30 points, 12 rebounds
He’s only 5-foot-10, so the 12 rebounds are eye-opening. We saw Faubel put on a show at our Top 250 Expo in September, so we’re not too surprised about the 30 points. But those rebounds, wow. Unfortunately, the big game came in a loss to Audubon.
Caleb Grizzle (Ankeny Christian) — 12 points pn 4-5 FGs (2-3 3s), 8 rebounds, 7 blocks
This sophomore has been key to the Eagles all season. And although they suffered their first loss last Tuesday night, Grizzle showed just how efficient and productive he can be. He could have himself a triple-double or two before the season is over.
Cooper Kabela (West Branch)
The rare 30-15 gem for this West Branch forward who is having a monster season so far. Kabela is averaging 24.1 points per game this season and shooting 52 percent from the floor. Unfortunately this 30 point 16 rebound game came in a loss to Regina.
