Austin Roetman (Pocahontas Area) — 35 points,12-18 FGs (5-8 3s), 7 rebounds, 5 blocks
Roetman has been enjoying a fine start to his season, and it all came to a boil in a 26 point win over Webster City last Monday. This Briar Cliff commit is a 6’7 stretch four who can hit the long ball and do damage from down low. Expect many more games like this for Roetman.
Zach Martinek (West Fork, Sheffield) — 36 points, 13-16 FGs (5-7 3s)
We didn’t know much about the sophomore coming into the season, but he’s firmly on our radar now. This performance was the best of many good ones this season for him. He’s averaging 19.4 points on some ridiculous shooting, and will be in the next installment of 2019 rankings.
PJ Rundquist (Wapsie Valley) — 50 points (9-13 3s, 9-9 FTs), 8 rebounds, 5 steals
It’s always impressive when you see a 40 point performance, and it happens only a handful of times in a season. But a 50 point game, now that’s special. Sometimes a whole season will go by without one 50 point cookie. But Rundquist did the deed during a 33 point shellacking of Sumner-Fredericksburg last Tuesday.
Matt Dentlinger (Kuemper Catholic) — 17 points, 13 rebounds, 5 assists, 6 blocks
This stat-stuffing performance by the future South Dakota State Jackrabbit probably isn’t too much out of the ordinary for him. Nonetheless, it’s still a sterling night of hoops. Dentlinger is truly one of the state’s most versatile players.
Grant Wishon (Clarke) — 18 points, 8 rebounds, 9 blocks
This standout big-man has been a shot-blocking menace this season, and he could be a triple-double threat as the season continues to unfold. He nearly came away with during this night’s thrashing of E-B-F
Sam Ingoli (Dowling) — 20 points, 15 rebounds
Iowa’s 4th-ranked 2018, Ingoli is quietly killing it this season. His high shooting percentages and steady scoring and rebounding have the Maroons off to a 3-1 start. What’s most impressive about this performance is the rebounding output from the guard spot.
Ray Miller (Davenport Central) — 26 points, 11 rebounds, 5 assists
Miller continued his early-season onslaught with this impressive effort against Muscatine last Friday night. The 26 points are great, but the 11 rebounds from the point guard spot really stand out. The 5-foot-11 senor is averaging 26.7 points and 7.7 rebounds this season.
Sam Allen (Grinnell) — 37 points on 12-20 FGs, 6 rebounds, 8 assists, 5 steals
One of the state’s purest shooters, Allen had a huge game against Oskaloosa last Friday. He’s an Upper Iowa signee, and if you ask us, the Division II Peacocks got a steal. Allen is putting up solid numbers so far this season, and his assists are particularly impressive.
Jay Small (Hinton) — 42 points on 15-24 FGs & 10-18 3s, 6 rebounds, 5 assists
Small was a Player of the Week nominee last week, and now he makes this list. As one of Iowa’s best seniors playing at the 2A ranks, he’ll have a lot of monster games. But 10 3s and 42 points, that’s huge.
Ja’Cee Clark (Waterloo East) — 11 points on 5-6 FGs, 11 assists, 5 steals
This Trojan junior put his name on our radar with an impressive double-double last Monday in a 40 point win over Oelwein. And as nice as the 11 dimes were, we were especially intrigued by the efficient shooting. Well done, Mr. Clark.
