The Flower Mound Marcus Marauders earned a 51-49 victory over the Plano Wildcats on Tuesday, the Dallas Jesuit Rangers went on the road and got a 58-48 win over the J.J. Pearce Mustangs on Friday, and the iSchool of Lewisville Cougars hosted and defeated the Spring Creek Academy Spartans 61-57 on Saturday.
Here are seven standout guard prospects from this past week’s action:
Gavin Perryman Gavin Perryman 6'1" | SG Dallas Jesuit | 2021 State TX | 2021 | 6’1” Shooting Guard | Dallas Jesuit – Perryman was absolutely sensational vs. Pearce, finishing the contest with 30 points, nine rebounds, and three assists. This guy could do no wrong, scoring efficiently from all three levels. The senior two-guard is a fearless shooter who is outstanding at creating for himself. He put on an offensive clinic on Friday, including four three-pointers and several gorgeous takes to the basket. It was one of the best individual performances I’ve seen thus far this season.
Keyonte George Keyonte George 6'5" | SG IMG Academy | 2022 State #4 Nation FL | 2022 | 6’4” Shooting Guard | iSchool of Lewisville – George had a quiet first half vs. SCA. However, he more than made up for it with a brilliant second half. The No. 2 ranked prospect in our Prep Hoops Texas 2022 rankings aggressively attacked the basket and consistently converted off the drive, helping the Cougars erase a 16-point halftime deficit en route to a come-from-behind victory. He is so good at finishing from awkward angles, even with two to three guys draped all over him. George accounted for 17 points, five assists, and two steals.
Nick Donnelly | 2021 | 6’0” Point Guard | Flower Mound Marcus HS – Donnelly is a well-rounded guard who plays with a sense of urgency. He made some terrific passes on Tuesday, zipping the ball all over the place and distributing with tremendous accuracy. As a scorer, he hit shots from mid-range as well as behind the arc. Most notably, the Marcus senior went the length of the floor with less than seven seconds remaining in regulation, drew a foul, and buried a pair of go-ahead free throws to ultimately win the game, ending the night with 11 points, three rebounds, and two assists. It is also worth noting that Donnelly shot the lights out vs. Coppell on Friday, draining seven threes on his way to dropping 31 points.
Lav Cvetkovic | 2021 | 6’8” Shooting Guard | Spring Creek Academy – Cvetkovic was phenomenal at several of our Prep Hoops events in the recent past. The 6-foot-8-inch shooting guard came out on fire vs. iSchool of Lewisville, making four threes in the first half. He displayed good touch near the basket with some floaters off the drive and showed craftiness by utilizing ball fakes to get open looks. Additionally, he made timely cuts, exhibited great off-ball movement, and did about as good a job as one can hope for when defending Keyonte George Keyonte George 6'5" | SG IMG Academy | 2022 State #4 Nation FL . His combination of size and skill is special and should allow him to immediately contribute at the next level. Cvetkovic finished the game with 22 points.
Elijah Taylor Elijah Taylor 5'9" | PG iSchool Lewisville | 2021 State TX | 2021 | 5’10” Point Guard | iSchool of Lewisville – Taylor was the first player of the bench for the Cougars on Saturday. The senior captain made some key plays against SCA, including three triples, the third of which was a catch-and-shoot corner three that came in the final two minutes of the contest and gave his team their first lead of the game, proving that he isn’t afraid to take and make big-time shots. He plays with great pace, possesses excellent quickness as a ball handler, and facilitates extremely well. He scored 13 points while also adding four assists to his stat line.
Dean Balo Dean Balo 6'3" | SG J.J. Pearce | 2023 State TX | 2023 | 6’4” Combo Guard | J.J. Pearce HS – Balo is a twitchy ball handler and a fantastic playmaker. The sophomore guard operates very well in pick-and-roll scenarios, knowing exactly where to go with the ball. He did a good job of finding open teammates on the perimeter as well as making accurate entry passes, perfectly floating the ball over the top to his bigs in the paint. His court vision was exceptional. Additionally, Balo looked good navigating the floor with his dribble and was solid when attacking the hoop, playing fast but under control throughout the evening.
Makhi Dorsey | 2022 | 6’0” Point Guard | Plano HS – Dorsey was a menace on defense vs. Marcus. He constantly pestered whoever he was guarding. His lateral quickness is great on the perimeter, evidenced by a spirited effort where he refused to give up an inch while defending opposing guards. He was great about playing the passing lanes too, making smart gambles and forcing numerous turnovers. On offense, the Plano junior lived at the foul line as a result of his aggressiveness, converting 16 of his 21 free throw attempts. Dorsey ultimately accounted for 16 points, three assists, and four steals on Tuesday.
