<p>The public school season has finally begun while some keep games in NCISAA took place this past week. Here’s a look a some prospects that made some noise this past week.</p>
<h3>Granville Central powers to 2-0</h3>
<p>The Rolesville Rams visited the Granville Central Panthers on Wednesday night in a nonconference matchup. The Rams jumped out to an early 9-2 lead led by [player_tooltip player_id="1113670" first="Jayden" last="Michael"] but the Panthers answered with a 20-5 run to close out the quarter. Michael finished with seven points and a number of assists despite the loss.</p>
<p>The first quarter was capped off by a 3-pointer from [player_tooltip player_id="574412" first="Terence" last="Harcum"] Jr. to end the final quarter buzzer. Harcum paced the Panthers with 30 points and a number of assists and rebounds in a 50-37 victory. He showcased his ability to make plays for himself and others using his strong frame and high IQ. He’ll be one to track at the next level at Appalachian State.</p>
<p>[player_tooltip player_id="838063" first="Jamari" last="Mann"] was another top performer for the Panthers. He put up 14 points and showed off his ability to defend, shoot the 3-ball and make plays on the fastbreak. Colleges in need of a sharpshooting guard and slasher that can defend with length, look no further.</p>
<p>[player_tooltip player_id="1113664" first="KJ" last="Green"] is a new sophomore name to track at Granville Central. He’s a 6-foot-1 guard that can defend, rebound and score the ball on all three levels. He’s an emerging guard that should be a solid third contributor this season for the Panthers.</p>
<h3>Henderson Collegiate looks to repeat in 1A action</h3>
<p>The Henderson Collegiate Pride got a 96-55 victory over Voyager Academy to kick off their 2020-21 season. [player_tooltip player_id="575163" first="Javonte" last="Waverly"] posted 26 points, four assists, four rebounds and two steals while [player_tooltip player_id="1082597" first="Omahj" last="Evans"] contributed with 15 points, nine rebounds, five assists and a block in a runaway victory for the Pride. Three other players finished scoring in double-figures for the Pride: [player_tooltip player_id="770286" first="Akhiris" last="Holden"] finished with 14 points and 10 rebounds. Newcomer [player_tooltip player_id="1082588" first="Ellis" last="Williams"] finished with 10 points and two assists. [player_tooltip player_id="1082589" first="TJ" last="Ragland"] finished with 12 points and five assists.</p>
<p>Junior big man [player_tooltip player_id="1082590" first="Jarrod" last="Small"] also had seven points and four rebounds. They’re a deep and talented group with room to grow as a unit with Waverly and Evans leading the way. They’ll be in action at home on Tuesday against East Wake Academy at 6:45.</p>
<h3>Wayne Country Day squeezes by Greenfield School</h3>
<p>Greenfield School got a game-high 33 points from junior forward [player_tooltip player_id="848068" first="Aaron" last="Murphy"] but it wasn’t enough in the end as Wayne Country Day pulled out a 81-79 victory on Friday night. A big third quarter burst from the Chargers put them in position to win it and after a wacky ending in the fourth, they sealed the victory.</p>
<p>They got 26 points, six assist, five rebounds from [player_tooltip player_id="574440" first="Mike" last="Best"], who continues to excel at the lead guard spot. [player_tooltip player_id="533552" first="Jaden" last="Cooper"] finished with 12 points, 11 rebounds, six assists and four blocks including a block at the end on [player_tooltip player_id="1046006" first="Jordan" last="Vick"] (11 points) to close out the game. [player_tooltip player_id="1050009" first="Carlos" last="Raven"] and [player_tooltip player_id="1113673" first="Jordan" last="Cooper"] also finished with 12 points apiece. Raven had eight assists and six rebounds. Cooper dished out two assists and snagged four rebounds.</p>
<p>Big man [player_tooltip player_id="838050" first="Vante" last="Hutcherson"] had his double-double streak snapped at 10 games but he still put up eight points and 11 rebounds, including a poster dunk at the end of regulation that sent his whole team into a frenzy that drew a technical foul. </p>
<p>[player_tooltip player_id="1076333" first="Hampton" last="Evans"] also finished with 20 points for Greenfield School.</p>
<h3>Greensboro Day School gets a key victory in NCISAA play</h3>
<p>Look for the Greensboro Day School Bengals to move up in the upcoming NCISAA Power Rankings after a 48-45 victory over Charlotte Christian on Saturday afternoon. [player_tooltip player_id="577888" first="Jaydon" last="Young"] put up 14 points and [player_tooltip player_id="887046" first="Tyler" last="Lundblade"] put up 13 points to power Greensboro Day past [player_tooltip player_id="854884" first="Bryce" last="Cash"] and his 20 points to score a solid victory against a 6-1 squad. The duo stepped up in the absence of [player_tooltip player_id="577847" first="Nikolas" last="Graves"], [player_tooltip player_id="1032837" first="C.J." last="Collins"] and [player_tooltip player_id="848080" first="Michael" last="Zanoni"]. It was a defensive struggle throughout with GDS leading 23-19 at the half. </p>
<p>The Bengals used an 9-0 run sparked by a flurry of [player_tooltip player_id="577888" first="Jaydon" last="Young"] and-1’s to push the score to 32-23 early in the third quarter. Soon after, [player_tooltip player_id="854884" first="Bryce" last="Cash"] would score on a run of his own to bring the score to 32-27. </p>
<p>The teams would trade 3-pointers after that to end the fourth quarter with Greensboro Day holding a 35-30 lead. Free throws became the difference down the stretch as Lundblade made 7-of-8 free throws in the fourth to continue to stretch the lead for the Bengals.</p>
<p>[player_tooltip player_id="1098343" first="David" last="Lash"] also had seven points and five rebounds for Charlotte Christian.</p>
