Without Isiah Harwell for the weekend, the ball-handling responsibilities fell truly on Mobley Jr. in South Carolina. He entered the event as the second-leading scorer in EYBL Scholastic play, but with a 23-point and 34-point outing, he increased his average to 21.8 and took sole control of the scoring crown. In the 23-point performance – an eight-point loss to Brewster Academy on Friday – Mobley Jr played all 32 minutes putting up 5 assists and 0 turnovers. While in the 34-point performance – a win over Legacy Early College – he burst out the gates on fire and hit a three on each of the teams’ first four possessions. John might not be as quick or as flashy as some of the other guards in the league, but his ability to put the ball in the basket will translate seamlessly to the next level in Columbus.

John had 22 points, 3 assists, three 3’s, and 2 steals in Wasatch Academy’s win over AZ Compass Prep on Friday afternoon. Mobley scored the ball effectively (9/16 from the field) inside the paint and from beyond the arc in this one as he used the threat of his jumper to beat defenders off the dribble to get into the paint.

The Ohio State commit and guard who played his pre high school ball in Columbus has been really impressive for a Vegas Elite team that’s looking to win the whole thing. Mobley’s shooting numbers are absurd as he’s shooting 55/45/100 from the field through three games. His three assists also don’t do justice the type of passer he’s been this week with a bunch of quick decisions and hockey assists as Vegas Elite’s wings do a great job making the extra pass for a bucket. Really the biggest question for Mobley at the next level will be how well he can defend and that won’t be something he’ll be able to show until he starts playing in the Big 10. Next up on his checklist will be a Peach Jam title with his stacked Vegas Elite squad.

The Ohio St Commit put up a 20 ball in Vegas Elite’s only victory of the weekend. He is a deadly sniper with the ability to quickly change the scoreboard from distance. He showed off his penchant for scoring with three double digit efforts last weekend in Dallas.

One of the most talented offensive guards in the country, Mobley, who grew up in Columbus, Ohio and will head back to Columbus for college as he committed to Ohio State. I love Mobley’s basketball IQ, I think the play that defined his game was when his team was about to get a five second violation inbounding, Mobley pointed his hand up to ask for a lob pass, which was the only option to get the ball inbounds in time. Mobley receives the pass takes one dribble inside the 3-point line then knocks down an and-1 step-back 3-pointer that was filthy. Mobley was 13/28 from 3-point range during the session and might be the best off the dribble shooter in the country with the deepest range. Defensively, Mobley has clear athletic limitations. However, I really liked how Mobley used his hands defensively and forces players to score around him instead of letting them go right through him.
