They may have only been in high school for a year, but the players have already started to make a name for themselves. Putting stuff out for coaches now is key even though they are two years away from signing to a program. Here is the fourth installment of the Film Room series, focusing on the 2023 class.
Daniel Vessey Daniel Vessey 6'3" | CG Hun | 2023 State NJ , 6’3 SG Hun
Vessey is a knockdown shooter from deep as he has one of the quickest releases in the class. He moves exceptionally well off the ball and is ready to shoot when he catches the ball. Vessey can also handle the ball on the perimeter, which he uses to get to the rim or knock down jumpers in the mid-range. He is a solid passer and does not rush his shot on the perimeter.
Shawn Simmons, 6’6 SG/SF Life Center Academy
Simmons is an explosive athlete on the wing who can finish above the rim. The Friends’ Central transfer can push the ball in transition and is a good finisher around the basket. Simmons is more than just a slasher as he has a clean shooting form and can knock down contested jumpers. He plays with confidence on the perimeter and is able to get to his spot on the floor off the bounce with consistency.
Owen Denton, 5’9 PG Williamstown
Denton has a quick release on his jumper, making it hard for defenders to block his shot. His biggest strength is his movement off the ball as he is constantly moving, freeing himself up for opportunities in the offense. Denton makes smart decisions with the ball in his hands and has a nice touch on his floater. He has a good handle and is capable of running the offense in the half court.
Joe DeBlasio, 5’10 PG St. John Vianney
DeBlasio is a pure point guard as he plays with good court vision and passing ability. He has a nice handle, which he uses to break down his defender and make plays in the lane. DeBlasio is a crafty finisher around the basket and is capable of finishing with either hand. He has a smooth shooting stroke and does not need a lot of space to get his shot off.
Louis Alaimo, 5’11 PG Ridgewood
Alaimo is at his best attacking the basket as he is unafraid of drawing contact. He has a nice touch on his floater and is a good finisher around the basket. Alaimo can handle the ball on the perimeter as he is able to beat his man off the bounce with consistency. He is more than just a driver as he has deep range and the confidence to shoot it at any time.
