There were outstanding individual performances, consistent role players, and other contributors throughout the three week event. Here is my all-league team from all three weeks of players who displayed consistency throughout and helped their team compete:
Captain; Steven Kramer Steven Kramer 6'5" | SG Johnston | 2022 State IA , Wing – #5 in Class of 2022
Despite Kramer’s scoring efforts his team came up short in the first week with some absences on the team the next two weeks they found a nice groove together. A big reason for that was Kramer’s ability to take over the game in the scoring department. Arguably one of the best individual performances was from Kramer in the last week where he had to of scored 40 or 50 of his team’s points. He scored against all kinds of defenses and when he wasn’t scoring, he was dishing to shooters on his team.
Cole Glasgow Cole Glasgow 6'2" | SG Dallas Center- Grimes | 2022 State IA , Guard – #3 in Class of 2022
Glasgow’s team had an up and down Fall Exclusive League, but when things were going well you could bet that Glasgow was at the middle of it. He had plenty of quality players around him so he was good at spreading the love to his teammates. He sat in on defense and of course hit shots when it was his time to do so. Showed off his athleticism at the rim and showed why he is one of the best in his class in the state.
Kieren Nichols Kieren Nichols 5'11" | PG Knoxville | 2021 State IA , PG – #30 in Class of 2021
The team with arguably the best inside, outside players was Nichols team where he was teamed up with Jack Groeteke Jack Groeteke 6'9" | C Dowling Catholic | 2021 State IA . Kieren showed his change of speed really well throughout the three weeks of play. He is good about getting the defense on their backheels and get downhill and he put that on full display the last three weeks. He also showed that he can efficiently hit the outside, 3 point shot.
Jack Groeteke Jack Groeteke 6'9" | C Dowling Catholic | 2021 State IA , Forward – #41 in Class of 2021
Kramer probably had the best individual game performance, but Groeteke might have stake to one of the best all-around weeks in the second week of league. He was hot from the perimeter and was taking it to any and all defenders that stepped up to try to stop him. The thing I liked about Jack in this league is the way he showed his developing inside game. Jack has always been able to shoot it from the perimeter but the more he develops his 6’10 frame and inside game the better for his college prospects.
James Glenn James Glenn 6'2" | PG Sep | 2021 State IA , PG – #35 in Class of 2021
Glenn showed why he’s one of the best scorers in the CIML over the course of these three weeks. He saved the best for last as he went toe to toe with Kramer and if he didn’t score just as many points he wasn’t far off. He did it many different ways hitting tough contested shots in the mid-range, or 3’s off the dribble or even knifing through the defense to get an easy bucket at the hoop.
Elijah Vos Elijah Vos 6'4" | SF Hoover | 2023 State IA , Wing – #2 in Class of 2023
Elijah was one of the most emphatic players in the league and brings a lot of energy to the court when he steps on it. All of that added to his shooting ability he’s a player coach’s all should want on their team. Vos showed an expanded game this Fall as he was a primary ball-handler for his team and initiated offense whereas this summer he played off the ball a lot. Vos didn’t disappoint with his shooting and showed he can continue to shoot it at a high rate from the mid-range and 3 point arch.
Jaxson Young Jaxson Young 6'0" | SG Linn-Mar | 2022 State IA , Guard – #15 in Class of 2022
I really liked the way Young attacked this league this fall by the way he looked to score from all levels. He looked to go into the post with smaller defenders on him, took one dribble pull-ups from the top of the key, hit stand and shoot 3 point shots, and took it to the hoop effectively and finished. The side of the ball he mostly impressed me on was his on-ball defense. He seemed to really enjoy that side of the ball and guarding whoever he had each game.
Ashton Hermann Ashton Hermann 6'4" | SG Ballard | 2022 State IA , Guard – #18 in Class of 2022
Ashton was really efficient in the three week league this fall. He was knocking down shots when he was open, and when he was contested he was still hitting shots. When he wasn’t scoring though he found ways to effect his team’s game whether that be moving without the ball, rebounding, playing good defense, or finding open teammates when he was covered.
Trevion Labeaux Trevion Labeaux 6'3" | SF Ames | 2022 State IA , Wing – #7 in Class of 2022
One of the more athletic teams in the league was led by Labeaux. What he offers with athleticism is strength and the way he can control the ball and fight through contact to convert plays around the rim. He showed some back to the basket game this fall on the block using spin moves, pump fakes, and just strong takes towards the rim. He showed his developing mid-range jumper with room to expand it. If he can continue to hit jump shots he has a chance to make a big jump this year.
Traijan Sain Traijan Sain 6'5" | SF Cedar Rapids Washington | 2023 State IA , Wing – #13 in Class of 2023
Completing an ultra athletic combo with Labeaux was Sain. They made it really difficult for teams to convert around the rim with their length and the way they can effect opponents shots. Sain wasn’t all defense though, he hit contested 15 foot jump shots consistently and showed some elusiveness to get to the basket. Really good in transition and will put it on your head if you don’t find him running the floor.
