Prep Hoops caught up with Hercy to talked recruiting and Redhawks basketball today.
On a team full of talent, Miller joined the team about five weeks into the season and was the fourth leading scorer for the Redhawks (the players in front of Hercy are nationally ranked top 50 level players). Miller had a season high 19 points in the loss to Eden Prairie.
Entering the winter, Hercy has a better feel for the program he is now apart of it’s been a big motivation for the biggest year of Hercy’s high school career.
“Even before the pandemic I was working out everyday, but during the pandemic, it allowed me to have two a days every day,” Hercy said. “Every day I shoot a minimum of 1,000 shots, lifted weights, and worked on my overall game. Not only am I working really hard on the court, I’m also watching a lot of film and highlights to learn and add to my game.”
Miller is training hard and putting in a lot of time and the reason for that is Miller’s big goals. The Redhawks of course want another state title in their trophy case and Hercy is looking to lead the way.
“My goal for this season is to push my teammates and myself to be the best version of ourselves,” Miller explained. “Another big goal is to win state because we were right there last year, then the pandemic ended our run. Lastly, my final goal is to compete for Minnesota Mr. Basketball.”
Miller has been offered scholarships by four high major schools plus he’s hearing from a number of other college programs.
“Right now I have six offers and that’s from Missouri, Western Kentucky, Morgan State, USC, LSU, and UCLA. I have been hearing from a bunch of schools lately. The schools that have talked to me most recently are Georgetown, Vanderbilt, LSU, and Missouri.
“I have been hearing from UCLA, TEXAS A&M, UNC, Oregon, and Clemson. I’m going to be making a decision on my next steps of my basketball career soon.”
