Here were some of the guys who looked good:
Ryder Staples, West Central United
Staples was a bright spot for West Central United Saturday, defending the rim, attacking the glass and finishing inside at a high level despite his team struggling in the early action. The 6-foot-5 West Central Area big man showed off the mobility to protect the paint while also covering perimeter-oriented bigs.
Kyle Hrncir Kyle Hrncir 6'4" | PF Farmington | 2022 State MN , WOTN Johnson
Hrncir is an active, athletic big who consistently produces points for WOTN Johnson. It’s easy to see how, as he does a lot of things well on that end of the floor. He runs the floor hard, which creates easy early scoring opportunities. He works to establish position inside either in post-up situations or as a safety valve and he’s skilled creating his own shot.
Samuel Rensch Samuel Rensch 6'6" | SF Hutchinson | 2022 State MN , Fury Wilde
Rensch had a terrific day for Fury Wilde, showing off an array of skills that allow him to impact the game. At 6-foot-6, he’s a mobile, athletic matchup nightmare because he can shoot the ball from the perimeter, he can put the ball on the floor and go by a bigger defender, and he can abuse smaller guys in the paint. The Hutchinson product gets it done on the defensive end of the floor too, as he can defend up or down an opposing lineup thanks to his combination of length, quickness and toughness.
Malcom Jones, D1 Minnesota
Jones can get overshadowed by some of the high-octane talent on the frontline of that D1 Minnesota team but the Prior Lake big man is a load inside and showed Saturday that he can produce at a high rate. He’s got very nice footwork in the low post and plays with a great understanding of how to move without the ball on the interior. He’s got excellent hands and finished through contact efficiently, and did a good job carving out space to create offensive rebounding opportunities.
Braden Hermann, Lightning Lyga
Hermann is listed at 6-foot-4, but he plays bigger. The Waukon, Wis. product has a strong frame and doles out punishment on the inside, utilizing broad shoulders to carve out space inside and a soft touch to finish. He did a good job playing without the ball on the offensive end, setting strong screens to free up teammates, and rim-running with purpose.
