This tournament was a fantastic showcase of all of the talent present in the midwest, many of which will receive a major uptick in recruiting! Be on the lookout for the rest of my coverage from this event!
Christopher Campbell 2022 6’5 PM Showcase 16U Shaw- New Richmond High School
Christopher is an incredibly athletic player for his size. His ability to handle the basketball and bully his way to spots on the floor was incredibly impressive this weekend. He had multiple agile and jaw-dropping moves that got him easy buckets such as finishing at the rim after tight spin moves to get around a defender. He also showed a tough ability to knock down pull up jump shots in the midrange. He needs more work stretching out his game and improving his finishing ability. With more strength and confidence at the rim, he could become an unstoppable force with the basketball.
Dontrell Bush Dontrell Bush 6'1" | SG Racine Horlick | 2022 WI 2022 6’3 Wisconsin RAP 16U Anthony- Racine Horlick High School
Dontrell is a great shooter for his size. He is confident at shooting along the wings and in the corners allowing him to space the floor well for his teammates to create driving lanes. He operates well using the triple threat and was effective at getting to the rim along the baseline after getting a defender to bite on a simple pump fake in the corner. His game should continue to develop as he begins to get more confident as a ball-handler and scoring option. I would like to see more tenacity on defense as he has all the tools to be an effective defender and become more aware of spacing on the offensive end and moving without the ball.
Ashton Beste 2022 6’5 Wisconsin Focus Premier 16U White- Marquette High School
Ashton has great touch around the rim and an explosive nature to his game that allows him to get into the teeth of the defense and score effectively. He has a soft floater and runner in his arsenal. He is great at utilizing his length and long strides to finish at the rim with one dribble. His footwork really stood out this weekend, he was really smart at using his steps to create distance between his defender and himself and using them to step around the help defense. I would like to see more work at rounding out his outside game and ability to shoot off the dribble.
Ty Morrison Ty Morrison 6'4" | SF Deer River | 2022 State MN 6’4 2022 PM North Premier 16U Schmitz- Deer River High School
Ty is an elite ball-handler for his size. He has the ability to dominate the basketball and take over the scoring load on offense. He is also is great at keeping his head up and initiating offense and creating for his teammates. I would like to see more ability at getting into comfortable spots in the midrange for pull up jumpers as well as working on his ability to space the floor and shoot off the catch. His ability to shift defenders’ weight and explode the other way was very impressive and should be a good indicator of his ability to succeed at the next level.
Eric Lail 2022 6’2 Magic 16U Jon- Henry Sibley High School
Eric is a scrappy on-ball defender with great size and ability to stay in front of his opponent. His quick feet and heads up awareness on the defensive end result in solid rim protection on the weak side. He is a great screener for his teammates and is great at knowing when to pop or roll to the bucket for an easy look. He should continue his development in handling the basketball and adding more comfortable moves that he can easily get into a jump shot with.
