Here were some of the top 16U guards from play Sunday:
Jasper Hedin Jasper Hedin 6'5" | SF Winona | 2022 State MN , Lightning Ellerbusch
Hedin was one of the best players in Sioux Falls from any age group and he backed up a terrific Saturday showing with really good play Sunday as well. He’s so smooth and makes everything on the floor look easy. He’s got great size at 6-foot-6, but he makes getting to the rim and finishing in traffic look effortless. He’s effective in the mid-range and showed complementary playmaking skills to boot.
Mason Hills, ECI Prospects
The Moorhead point guard did a great job providing a spark seemingly every time he stepped onto the floor for ECI Prospects. Hills has excellent quickness and it shows up with his on-ball defense, as he’s excellent putting pressure on the ball. He’s explosive off the bounce and possesses a good floater and mid-range game, plus showed solid playmaking skills.
Cohen Kellogg Cohen Kellogg 6'0" | PG Orono | 2022 State MN , Comets De Los Reyes
Kellogg had a lot of good moments Sunday for Comets Delo. He didn’t look to score a whole lot, but for a team working out the kinks of playing together for the first time, his ability to control the tempo and get his team into structure was a big positive. He’s a heady playmaker and a solid finisher in the paint despite lacking great size, and his defensive toughness helped spearhead solid defensive efforts.
Antonio Blueitt, Comets De Los Reyes
Blueitt was another one of the top players in Sioux Falls last weekend and showed in certain spots why he’s considered one of the upper-echelon players in the 2022 class. The Buffalo point guard scored efficiently from all over the floor, made plays for his teammates, picked his spots and when his team needed him to, he showed he can take over a game on both ends of the court.
RJ Spencer RJ Spencer 6'3" | SG Totino-Grace | 2022 State MN , MN Select Davis
Spencer did a great job attacking the rim throughout play on Sunday. He’s an aggressive and athletic swingman who seeks out contact on drives and showed he can finish with physicality at a high rate. His ability to break down primary defenders and get to the rim gave Select Davis an offensive option and get something good out of seemingly nothing.
Brandon Melchoir, Comets De Los Reyes
Melchoir looked excellent on both ends of the floor Sunday. He’s a big, physical post presence who routinely established solid post position and illustrated excellent patience, footwork and touch when asked to create his own offense. He knocked down catch-and-shoot jumpers at a strong clip and showcased range out to the 3-point line.
Samuel Rensch Samuel Rensch 6'6" | SF Hutchinson | 2022 State MN , Fury Wilde
Rensch flashed a lot Sunday, packing a bunch of solid skills into a 6-foot-6 frame. His outside shot looked excellent and he combined that with a slashing style and ability to get to the paint. And his defensive versatility was a big positive, as he’s got the size to guard up an opposing lineup, but also the quickness and smarts to defend smaller guys.
RJ Jioklow, MN Select Davis
Jioklow was on his game Sunday, getting into attack mode early and often. His ability to slash, get into gaps and make plays for himself and his teammates makes the game easier for everybody and he’s an excellent passer and finisher.
