Continue ReadingIn an effort to provide new and unique ways to cover prospects, we thought it would be important to give some coverage to those that might not always get it. To do that, we will be digging deep into each conference in the state.
We will be breaking down each conference starting with the Class of 2021 first to show college coaches who they need to be placing a value on heading into the year.
We will continue to go through each conference to try and hit as many players as possible with the hopes of helping these seniors-to-be catch the attention of prospective college coaches.
Justin Recker Justin Recker 6'6" | PF Monticello | 2021 State IA – Monticello
A top scorer in the conference, Monticello’s Justin Recker Justin Recker 6'6" | PF Monticello | 2021 State IA averaged over 17 points per game for the Panthers, who advanced to the Class 2A state tournament before falling to conference rival Camanche in the quarterfinals.
Recker, who scored 412 points, also added 150 rebounds, 76 assists, 33 blocks and 31 steals. He shot over 63 percent from the field, 54 percent from the three-point line and 68 percent at the charity stripe.
Kael Unruh – North Cedar
North Cedar produced a winning season in 2019-20, going 13-10 before coming up short in a substate quarterfinal. The Knights return their top distributor in Class of 2021 prospect Kael Unruh.
Unruh scored 261 points with 88 assists, 87 rebounds, 49 steals and 13 blocked shots, shooting 44 percent from the field. He also knocked down 14 three-pointers and made almost 65 percent of his free throws.
Jordan Lawrence Jordan Lawrence 5'9" | PG Camanche | 2021 State IA – Camanche
Along with being a standout on the football field, Camanche’s Jordan Lawrence Jordan Lawrence 5'9" | PG Camanche | 2021 State IA is a talent on the basketball court.
Lawrence posted 220 points with 61 rebounds, 57 assists and 43 steals last year for the Indians who went 23-4 and finished third in Class 2A at the state tournament. He shot almost 47 percent from the field and made 29 three-pointers.
Aidan Rath – Mid-Prairie
While Mid-Prairie had troubles last year, they finished the season strong, winning five in a row before bowing out in the substate quarterfinals to conference rival Camanche.
The Golden Hawks return many key players including leading rebounder Aidan Rath.
As a junior, Rath posted nearly six boards a night. He scored 186 points on 49 percent shooting with 130 total boards, 28 blocks, 15 assists and 10 steals.
Simon Palmer Simon Palmer 6'5" | PF West Branch | 2021 State IA – West Branch
West Branch finished 18-5 a year ago, suffering a one-point loss to West Burlington in an exciting substate semifinal.
The Bears return leading scorer Simon Palmer Simon Palmer 6'5" | PF West Branch | 2021 State IA , as the Class of 2021 prospect posted 246 total points on over 53 percent shooting from the floor.
Palmer, who scored 246 total points, shot 41 percent from the three-point line with 69 rebounds, 21 steals, 18 assists and 16 blocks.
