Thr Challenge: 302 Rising Stars

Delaware held its own out at Spooky Nook this weekend, bringing home victories against top programs from around the east coast. In the process, multiple prospects showed signs that they're ready to take the next step as competitors at the high school level. Here are five of them:

A known marksman, it got scary once Jones saw the first three go in early against Boys Latin. A couple possessions later, someone tried to close out hard on him, but Jones just side-stepped into another triple. He scored a fastbreak layup and hit a third three in the first half. After a fourth triple, A defender successfully ran him off the line, but Jones simply got to a smooth midrange pull-up.

Murphy's been producing for the Cavs since his sophomore year, but he really seemed to be turning the corner against the Bengals and Raider Nation. A thrilling defender, Murphy created havoc everywhere. He strapped his man, rejected a shot inside, and stole passes out the air. That extended to his activity on the boards. Murphy cleaned up his misses and everyone else's as he pushed the rock on fastbreaks and racked up putbacks in the halfcourt.

Sosa was on GO defensively, causing problems for anyone and everyone he was guarding. Relentlessly sliding his feet, he was really dangerous shooting his hands to deflect the ball away for steals and creating transition opportunities. Sosa even got up to block a shot. His energy on that end carried over to offense where he remained aggressive as a slasher and shooter. Finally, against Coatesville, he forced a crucial turnover late and hit the game-winning free throw for the upset victory.

Thomas had some extra sauce to his game on Saturday. Making a living getting to the paint, Thomas was dealing. When he wasn't driving all the way to the cup for two, he was throwing dimes to forwards in the dunker spot and skip passes back to the perimeter for threes. Thomas got after it on defense too by forcing turnovers. And when he didn't have the ball, he was spacing the floor for others.

With the Mustangs short a couple players, Woodson starred in his role to help his squad overcome adversity. The young wing came up big for them on defense, deflecting passes and altering shots. Equally important, he committed to crashing the boards. Then on offense, he attacked off the catch, slicing through the lane with step-throughs, and dove into cracks in the zone for easy attempts at the rim, all while hitting the occasional three.
