MADE Northeast Scholastic Preview Saturday Guard Standouts

Saturday's action at the MADE Hoops Northeast Scholastic Preview at Shoot Hoops KOP featured a strong collection of lead guards who controlled games in different ways. Some carried the scoring load, while others separated themselves through their playmaking, defense and ability to organize talented groups around them. These guards were among the most impressive performers from the day.

Scott's arrival gives Life Center a legitimate point guard capable of running the offense and making the talent around him better. He made several impressive reads off the dribble and got a piece of the paint more often than not. Scott was especially impactful defensively, creating deflections and helping force turnovers that led to easy scoring opportunities for LCA. On a roster with significant talent around him, Scott will be tasked with quarterbacking the Warriors' offense.

The hard-playing two-way guard was all over the floor during Academy Park's morning battle with Union Catholic. Using his quickness and strength, Speaks consistently got to the rim and finished while also forcing several turnovers on the defensive end. His ability to change speeds and directions with the ball made it extremely difficult for defenders to stay in front of him. Expect Speaks to become a popular name among small-college programs in the area before long.

Coleman appears to be next in an increasingly long line of talented guards to come through the storied Philadelphia public school program. The 6-foot-3 guard was effective getting into the lane, where he could find teammates or finish with a floater or layup. His long wingspan also made him a pest defensively, allowing him to slow down West Nottingham's guards at the point of attack as the Panthers steadily extended their lead. His biggest role may still be another year away, but there is little doubt Coleman will eventually become an important piece for Imhotep.

A talented scorer who has worked hard to expand his game off the dribble, Rodriguez looked every bit like one of the Garden State's top juniors. He created quality opportunities for his teammates while remaining as dangerous as ever from beyond the arc. Several college programs have already extended offers, but his high basketball IQ, improved creation ability and soft shooting touch should bring even more schools into his recruitment soon enough.

Ivery got better as the game progressed against Calvert Hall, becoming increasingly assertive whenever his team needed a basket. The big guard knows how to get downhill and is a reliable finisher once he reaches the lane. His passing and vision continue to stand out as well. With plenty of scoring options surrounding him, those playmaking instincts should remain on display throughout the season.

An emerging talent in the 2029 class, Shoultz continues to perform at a high level. He consistently created his own shot off of the dribble and finished with 27 points as LEAP knocked off Timber Creek. Shoultz sees the floor well, possesses good positional size for a lead guard and is not afraid to shoot on the move. There is still plenty of untapped potential here, making him a prospect worth following closely over the next several years.

Cooper delivered one of the best pure point guard performances of the day, doing an excellent job of spreading the ball around and keeping all of his teammates involved. A bigger lead guard with a good first step and strong court vision, he understands how his penetration opens the floor for everyone around him and routinely picked out open shooters. CBA is expected to be among the Garden State's top programs this season, and its offensive attack will begin with Cooper.

Collins was the single biggest difference-maker in Neumann-Goretti's win over Bridgeport Prep. The Le Moyne commit got into the paint seemingly whenever he wanted and knocked down open threes when given the opportunity. His 26-point performance against St. Mary helped the Saints earn their first win of the day before he displayed more of his vision and creation ability against Bridgeport Prep. The Dolphins have a good one coming in Collins.
