Texas Class of 2027 Hybrid Posts Recruiting Update

The list of post players who can impact the statistical column in all categories is beginning to increase, starting with the class of 2027. As the traditional big man position starts to fade away a bit, the door is opening for players who have the height, can shoot the long ball well, and handle the ball in traffic to function as both a wing and a post when on the floor. This article will feature some hybrid hoopers who I believe have these skills needed to play both the wing and post positions but will primarily function in the paint due to their height and wingspans.    [player_tooltip player_id='3680824' first='Elijah' last='Trahan'] is a very versatile post player who can hurt opponents from either the interior or the perimeter. He shoots three pointers with ease due to his height, and he crashes the glass well for putback dunks and layups. His backdoor cuts open the door for alley-oops, and he effectively distributes with the ball in his hands during the half court offense. His long wingspan and sprints in transition allow him to beat opponents down the floor and get open looks at the basket from all levels.     Gabe is working his way into contention as one of my top prospects that I have been watching since his sophomore season with Barbers Hill. Even as a 10th grader, I could sense that he had the skillset to take his game to the next level in the future and he has done that over the last 2 years with both his offense and defensive capabilities. He can spot up from the perimeter with smooth mechanics on his long range jumper or punishing smaller defenders under the basket. Childress is effective off the pick and roll and knows how to pick his spots well off the ball.     The GASO tournament in Houston this summer was when I got to watch Gabe Madrigal playing with BTS Torres and providing a steady presence especially on offense for his squad. He is capable of handling the ball under full court pressure and taking it coast to coast whether that is on the perimeter or in the paint. At his size, handling the ball is an underrated attribute that he can use to his advantage in isolation situations, and he was one of the best spot up shooters I saw all summer for his position. Look for Gabe to make his way onto college radars this upcoming school year!     Jonathan is a hybrid player who can stretch the floor with spacing on offense and protect the rim with underrated athleticism on defense. Cayetano blocks shots against opponents who try to bully him down low, and he comes up with key rebounds to stop the other team from scoring. He is capable of knocking down fadeaways or with a solid post up game against mismatches and his speed in transition showcases his ability to rim run effectively. He positions himself well under the basket to finish with ease at a high rate and he is nearly capable of averaging a double-double every game based on who is guarding him.
