Freshmen Showcase 2026: 2nd Team

<!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Saturday, September 5th&nbsp;<strong>Prep Hoops Arizona</strong>&nbsp;had the 4th annual&nbsp;<strong>Freshman Showcase</strong>&nbsp;which was hosted at Inspire Courts in Gilbert, AZ. We had around 55 freshmen who were competing in a few games of 5 on 5.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>This article is&nbsp;<strong>not a prospect ranking</strong>&nbsp;but how productive they were at the camp when I viewed them.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:heading --> <h2 class="wp-block-heading">Here is the 2nd Team</h2> <!-- /wp:heading --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><strong>[player_tooltip player_id='3728756' first='Breydon' last='Day'] Williams Field</strong></p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>A long combo forward who is very fluid. He will take long strides to the basket and will score with and-1's, dunks in the lane, he has a tough layup package and will rip thru quickly. He is always trying to get to his spots with his handle. He will defend a few positions and rebounds well. </p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><strong>[player_tooltip player_id='3759644' first='Nick' last='Fleming'] AZ Compass Prep</strong></p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>A long power with a big wingspan. He will score it from inside and out. He will hit the three off the catch with a nice shooting stroke and then will score with offensive rebound put backs. He rebounds well and can defend multiple positions with his length.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><strong>[player_tooltip player_id='3649312' first='Timothy' last='Gammage III'] St. Mary's </strong></p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>A long wing forward with incredible size already. He is a fluid mover and a natural defender. He will defend in space on guards and then quickly move inside on bigger forwards. He gobbles up rebounds and will score with long strides to the basket.&nbsp;</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><strong>[player_tooltip player_id='3665114' first='Andrew' last='Hadley'] Mesquite (Pictured)</strong></p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>A bigger wing forward is a fluid mover who is hyper athletic. He will dunk it easily on the break, score with tough layups and offensive rebound put backs as he is a very good rebounder in his area with a real motor. He will&nbsp;block shots from the weak side and look for him to get some early burn on varsity.&nbsp;</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><strong>[player_tooltip player_id='2961250' first='Von' last='Herzog'] Brophy Prep</strong></p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>One of the more productive players at the camp was Herzog. The scoring point guard will score it easily with hesitations to the basket and manages to get to his spots with a nice handle but he is a shooter. He has one of the quicker release from the three with a pure stroke as he squares up in a blink of an eye. He can collect steals and is a very underrated passer.&nbsp;</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><strong>[player_tooltip player_id='3727700' first='Jacob' last='Lewis'] Basha</strong></p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>A dynamic point guard with incredible speed and pace. He has one of the tightest handles in the class and can blow past almost anyone he wants. He will score with off the dribble threes, mean pull-ups from mid-range and threes off the catch. He is very elusive to the basket and can break press impressively by himself.&nbsp;&nbsp;</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><strong>[player_tooltip player_id='3662701' first='Deon' last='Pless'] Mesquite</strong></p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Another player ready to make noise on varsity this season. He is super competitive on both sides and competes on the defensive end. He has quick feet and hands to lock up his opponents and he will push the rock and is great on the break. He finds teammates and will score it in the lane. He can also shoot it from mid-range.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><strong>[player_tooltip player_id='3732188' first='Amar'e' last='Rocha'] Basha</strong></p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>A long guard is a natural scorer. He is very skilled to the three point line. He has a pretty shooting with range on his shot. He will also give a hard ball fake and he is a long strider to the basket to score or throw a nice pass for the assist.&nbsp;</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><strong>[player_tooltip player_id='3662703' first='Travius' last='Tucker-Evans'] Carl Hayden</strong></p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>An impressive wing forward with skill and athleticism. He has very long arms and moves well in space. He will rebound at a high clip and get steals in bunches with his twitch and long arms. He will dunk it easily on the break and hit the three off the catch. An immediate impact varsity player in 6A.&nbsp;</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph -->
