CoBL Interstate Shootout: Unranked PA 2029's to track

City of Basketball Love hosted its annual fall Interstate Shootout this past weekend, bringing in nearly 120 teams from five states to compete over a stacked two days of action in Philly. Keep reading for a look at several currently-unranked 2029's who made an impression over the course of the weekend. A repeat sophomore by way of Pope John Paul II (PA), Brady caught the eye immediately with his size and advanced frame before going on to show an intriguing two-way foundation. Long and lean with natural strength and quick feet, he's active on the offensive glass with flashes of swift footwork as a finisher in the paint. His size, strength, and ability to move his feet make for a promising defensive profile as well. While his ball skills and decisionmaking are still works in progress, Brady looks like he'll be a consistent factor for the Falcons moving forward. Another emerging piece in a new-look Friends Select rotation, Lesser stepped right in off the bench as a steady plug-and-play option in the backcourt. He's quick, crafty, and poised with the basketball with the requisite size and skillset to play across both guard spots. Lesser shows advanced mechanics as a shooter both off the dribble and the catch, giving him a consistent role even in a sometimes crowded backcourt. He was a pleasant surprise on Sunday and put himself firmly on the radar heading into the season. Upper Dublin was already slated to be a favorite in District 1 5A behind a high-powered pair of returning seniors, but the Cardinals now have an added wrinkle with the emergence of Johnson in the backcourt. Taking over lead guard duties for since-graduated program stalwart Kobe Bazemore, Johnson is quick and poised with the ball as a primary handler. He shows nice footwork and soft touch getting into the lane for floaters, with length to grow into and a frame that suggests he could add at least another inch or two. We'll look forward to learning more as he's tested further with the Cardinals' expecting to play deep into the postseason. Evans stood out on Cheltenham's roster last season as a freshman with size suiting up on the varsity, but is slotting into the Panthers' starting lineup as a sophomore and showed some promising building blocks on Saturday. A big and physical frontcourt presence, he has no problem banging bodies around the rim while serving as an effective dumpoff threat and rebounder in his area. He looks to have solid hands and flashed hints of passing feel. While still rough around the edges, there's clearly plenty to work with as Evans continues getting more up to speed in the varsity rotation. One of few underclassmen who we saw running the show all weekend, Boyd has been handed the keys to the AFS offense and at times played the part like a seasoned vet. He's a poised ballhandler who can facilitate the offense or call his own number when needed, showing an efficient downhill attack and capable perimeter stroke when left open. While on the smaller side, he's deceptively long with athleticism to play up above the rim in space. Boyd should be ready to make noise in the Friends League this season and will see his name included in the next update to the 2029 rankings.
