Monday, I was in Greenville, South Carolina, to check out Christ Church Episcopal School, a team that has dominated the last decade and has one of the state's brightest talents. Since I didn't get to watch them in June, this was my first time seeing Kaleb with the Cavaliers since he transferred there this summer. Allen is an effortless athlete who is rapidly improving his three-point shot. He has a nice package of moves to go to with his back to the basket and a solid feel as a passer. This was one of the best looks I've gotten at Gibson in person, and he looked really good. He can play either position in the backcourt, which will allow him to be a factor next to Allen, who will have a high usage rate. When Askew is off the ball, he makes intelligent cuts and drifts and is a solid perimeter shooter. When he's on the ball, he has a strong frame to punish smaller guards and get to the rim, or he can make plays and set up others. He is one of the better corner shooters in the state, but he's also comfortable hitting perimeter shots on the move and off the dribble. He will get an increased volume of on-ball opportunities this season because of all the seniors that departed a season ago. Shay has a nice floater to finish in the paint and is capable of running the pick-and-roll; they just need him to be more consistent and aggressive as one of their senior leaders in 2026-27. </p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- /wp:acf/evaluation-block --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><strong>Team Takeaway:</strong></p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Christ Church has been no stranger to success over the past few years. This year looked like a potential down year because of seven seniors who graduated after last season, but the addition of [player_tooltip player_id='2630771' first='Kaleb' last='Allen'] has completely flipped their timeline. They instantly became one of the favorites in Class 3A again and became a place where college coaches must stop by. Although Allen will be one of the best players in the state and a guy capable of putting up monster numbers, it's not simply a one-man show. The backcourt of [player_tooltip player_id='2418913' first='Gibson' last='Askew'] and [player_tooltip player_id='2887707' first='Ty' last='Young'] will provide lots of shooting and capable playmaking on a consistent basis, and the size of [player_tooltip player_id='1997563' first='Joshua' last='Butler'] can provide a presence around the rim on both ends of the floor. Once they get their football players back in and the chemistry starts to really set in, the Cavaliers will become a team that can set their hopes on a return to Colonial Life Arena in March. </p> <!-- /wp:paragraph -->
