Andrew's Osborne Academy Practice Notes

On Wednesday I attended practice at Andrew's Osborne Academy, this was the first day where Division I schools could attend high school practices in the Fall and coaches from Akron, Kent State, St Bonaventure and small college programs filled the gym alongside me. In this article I'll break down some of the standouts I saw.    On a team with a handful of Division I targets in the 2027 class, Aborowa has separated himself, earning national recognition after a strong summer with Andrew's Osborne Academy in June and Indiana Elite in July. Aborowa had the head coach of a major program recruiting him hard in attendance on Wednesday, showing their commitment to trying to get him signed to the program. Aborowa shot the ball with confidence during the 5 on 5 portion of the practice and showed impressive flashes driving the ball as well. With so much natural talent, it's tough to put a ceiling on what Aborowa can become in another couple of years.     Otite and Aborowa have been two of the main pieces for the program for a few years now and Otite once again impressed with his unbelievable explosiveness and vertical pop. Otite was dunking everything in drills and in 5 on 5 scrimmage time. Otite is a grown man in the paint and should be physically ready to go from the moment he steps on a college campus due to his athleticism, size and frame. If Otite can make any strides as a floor spacer or decision maker, he'll open up more ways to play alongside another big instead of strictly being a rim runner.     Rojas Joy was one of the top performers I saw on the Pro 16 circuit in July as his pace, soft touch and perimeter shooting ability stood out with WV Gold. I saw all those skills on display on Wednesday as his ability to play in tight spaces and control the tempo of the game really stood out. Rojas Joy looks like a prospect who could blow up this winter as I'm shocked at how quiet his recruitment is at the moment. I'd expect things to change by January at the latest for him as college programs were mentioning how impressed they were with the lefty guard.     This was my first time seeing Nwokolo live and he immediately stood out with his length, quick twitch leaping ability and toughness in the paint. Nwokolo is a modern stretch forward as he will rebound, finish at the rim, defend multiple spots and knock down the open shot from the perimeter. All those qualities made the college coaches I was standing with intrigued by Nwokolo as he should be a guy Division I schools take quick interest to now that he's getting settled in Ohio.     Renn is a prospect I've seen before with Indiana Elite and he's now in Ohio as a prospect I'll be ranking and writing about a lot more. Renn impressed with his ability to finish dunks in 5 on 5 settings in the half-court as he drove down the lane and threw one down off a pump fake that got everybody in the gym reacting. Renn also was playing above the rim in full court layup drills, showing his ability to explode while tired. I also liked Renn's ability to be a secondary ball handler and creator, making some simple but effective moves to score at the basket for himself or hit a teammate on the roll. Impressive 2028 prospect who will be added to the next Ohio rankings update.     Having the high school program practice with the prep team allowed me to catch some under the radar names at Andrew's Osborne Academy. Last season I got my first looks at Jackson Burge and Kenneth Grant and this year it was Vukajlovic being the standout. With good length, showing the ability to knock down a 3-pointer if given time and space and a decent frame, Vukajlovic looks like a name to know for the future with the high school program as they have some legit talent as well!     Sanders is a reclass from Colorado, going from the 2029 to the 2030 class. Sanders is an elite perimeter shooter with stood out for Colorado Collective on the Pro16 Circuit and at Prep Hoops Circuit events this summer. Sanders showed the ability to hit spot-up and pick and pop 3-pointers playing alongside the top talent on the prep team, having a clear role as a floor spacer. A name you'll be hearing about over the next few years at the program!
