Upperclassmen Gaining Traction in Pennsylvania

Rhoades has really elevated his game over the last several months, and his continued development has been evident with each viewing. He does an excellent job changing gears on the attack, exploding downhill once he sees an opening and putting constant pressure on the rim. Rhoades also fills the lane well in transition, where his speed and aggressiveness routinely lead to easy scoring opportunities. Beyond his own scoring, he showed impressive vision by finding his more athletic teammates with well-timed lob passes that created highlight-reel finishes. With the strides he has made this summer, Rhoades is a prospect who should see a significant upward trajectory in our next Pennsylvania rankings release.     Boyd is a prospect I have been high on over the last several seasons because of the countless ways he finds to positively impact the game. Despite not having overwhelming size, he consistently plays much bigger than his frame, competing with toughness and physicality on both ends of the floor. Boyd is a switchable defender who embraces difficult assignments and uses his instincts to disrupt opposing offenses. He also has a nose for the basketball, routinely putting himself in position to come up with rebounds, loose balls, and high-percentage scoring opportunities. His versatility, motor, and winning approach make him one of the more reliable all-around contributors in the class.     Devan is a utility guard who finds different ways to leave his mark on the game. He provides valuable depth as a complementary scorer, understanding how to produce within the flow of the offense without forcing the action. I like the way he pushes the pace in transition, getting the ball up the floor quickly and creating opportunities before the defense can get set. Devan also has an effective runner that he uses confidently when attacking the lane, adding another layer to his offensive game. Defensively, his long arms allow him to play bigger than his size, creating havoc with deflections, steals, and disrupted passing lanes while making life difficult for opposing ball handlers.     Hughes is a versatile guard who is comfortable playing both on and off the basketball, making him an easy fit in a variety of backcourt roles. He does a nice job creating for others, consistently finding teammates for quality scoring opportunities with his vision and decision-making. Hughes is also effective leading the break in transition, pushing the pace and making the right reads in the open floor. In the half court, he takes advantage of slower defenders with a quick first step, allowing him to get downhill and create offense off the bounce. His blend of playmaking, speed, and versatility makes him a valuable two-way guard.     Tholley is a rangy, budding swingman who is just beginning to scratch the surface of his potential. He has the ability to step out and knock down perimeter shots while also showing comfort putting the ball on the deck to get to his spots and touch the paint. Tholley runs the floor well for his size, consistently filling the lanes in transition and creating easy scoring opportunities. His combination of length, mobility, and offensive versatility gives him intriguing long-term upside. As he continues to develop, adding strength and weight to his frame will help him play through contact more effectively and maximize his potential on both ends of the floor.
