Under the Radar: 804 forwards that deserve more attention

The 804 area has quietly produced some high-level talent over the last few years from Private school players and public school standouts. Over the last few years, we've had countless players go to Division 1 schools, Division 2, Division 3, Juco, and all have made an impact at their next stop. Here is a closer look at some players who have been trending upward and have been under the radar with next-level potential.    Jovin has quickly asserted himself as one of the biggest stock risers in Richmond regardless of class. He was a standout at Glen Allen High School and recently transferred to The Collegiate School and reclassified to the class of 2028. Jovin has been transforming his game this summer and becoming the complete player many believed he could one day become. He is a versatile forward who excels on both sides of the ball; he is great at scoring in transition, scoring downhill, scoring inside, and has really developed a consistent jumper from 3 and the mid-range. He has already been known as an elite athlete and great defender, but this summer he has taken major leaps offensively by becoming a better scorer and ball-handler. What isn't talked about enough about his game is his high IQ and selfless approach; he had multiple double-double performances but added in 4-5 assists on multiple occasions. He is a matchup nightmare for opposing teams because he is hard to stop inside and is also quick enough to get downhill and finish over top of defenders. He recently received his first offer to Winston-Salem State, a Division 2 school, and has received a lot more interest from other scholarship schools. Be on the lookout for him this season at Collegiate as a potential player of the year candidate.     [player_tooltip player_id='3275784' first='Donovan' last='Stinney'] is another player who has skyrocketed this summer, with his game growing. He also just received an offer to Winston-Salem State, a Division 2 program in North Carolina. Donovan is an extremely athletic forward standing at about 6'7 who plays above the rim and finishes well inside. Donovan has really improved inside out game and has become more versatile over this summer. Almost every tournament he has played in this summer, he has turned heads and been chosen as a standout. He is a very active defender and uses his length to his advantage on both sides of the ball; whether he's going to grab a rebound or to block a shot, he always seems to get a hand on the ball. What I like most about his game is his ability to run and move the floor so well for his size. He is a prospect that coaches will love to take a look at more because he fits the new modern play-style most colleges are playing with at their forward or center position with an athletic and mobile big.     [player_tooltip player_id='3275748' first='Bodi' last='Corley'] has been one of my favorites to track this summer. He is another very athletic big man and debatably one of the best bigs we have here in Richmond, regardless of class. Bodi is a 6'8 physical monster who excels at scoring inside with his muscle and around the rim. He has developed more of a consistent 15-foot and in jumper, which has helped expand his game. He is a walking double-double machine and has been one of the most talked-about players all summer long. Bodi will most likely be a player of the year candidate if he continues the same production into his senior season. It's hard to believe he hasn't gotten a legit scholarship opportunity thus far; he checks all the boxes. A couple things stand out to me about Bodi is his high motor and relentless effort, and his team-first mentality; he always is trying to do what's best for the team and always gives his maxium effort every time he steps on the court. Moving forward, expect his name to be one you see a lot this upcoming season as he looks to lead James River to another strong season.
