Tufts Elite Camp Second-Team + Honorable Mentions

On Saturday, August 22nd, I attended and was on staff for Tufts Elite Camp at their facility in Medford, MA. Around 35 players were present for skills and drills, 3v3, and 5v5 games. Adams was right on the border of being on my first-team. The 6-foot-3 guard had arguably the prettiest shot in the entire gym and shot the ball at an incredibly high clip Saturday—he showed off the ability to hit catch-high, keep-high shots and also has good footwork when coming off screens and relocating on the perimeter. What impressed me most, though, was his knack for quickly and decisively driving closeouts and getting to the front of the rim. He has good size and strength for his age, and he really understands the difference between an open and clogged paint. Adams should be one of the better players in the MIAA for BC High this season and will be a HIGHLY sought after prep prospect for local ISL's in the next year.     Everitt gets better every single time I watch him play. He looks stronger and more coordinated, has better hands, and even seems to be improving his perimeter skillset in my most recent evaluation of him from Saturday. The 6-foot-7 wing/forward was one of the most physically imposing players in the gym and consistently used his size and length to overwhelm opposing bigs in the paint, whether it was for offensive rebounds or with his drop step finishes in the post. Most intriguing was the rising junior's ability to knock down shots from the three-point line and drive closeouts when the defense overplayed him, something I haven't necessarily seen from him before. Everitt is going to be a meaningful player for Avon Old Farms this season and looks like a high-level D3 player to me (with the potential to go even higher if he improves his perimeter skillset).     Peabody and Adams were competing for best shooter in the gym all day, and the Phillips Andover rising senior definitely put up a good fight. The 6-foot-3 guard has a go-to move—his hang dribble into a pull-up three—and it's incredibly difficult to defend because of how quickly he gets it off and the consistency with which he hits it. With that as the foundation of his game, he's also able to drive to the rim against over-aggressive defenders and finish with both hands. Defensively, Peabody surprised me with his willingness to slide his feet and his general size and strength; I didn't realize that he's as big as he is. He should be a key player for Phillips Andover this season and projects as a high D3 player.     Rasch was one of the toughest shot-makers in the gym on Saturday. The 6-foot guard doesn't have crazy size, but he's extremely confident with the ball in his hands and has a deep bag of finishing tricks and footwork at his disposal; on one occasion, he hit a one-footed fading shot with an aggressive contest (and he looked comfortable doing it). He also excelled as a driver and finisher and has the ability to score in bunches. Rasch certainly needs to refine his discernment in terms of what a good vs. bad shot is, but he has lots of talent and can score the basketball at a high level.     Hedequist is quite intriguing. The 6-foot-4 guard/wing showed some flashes of special finishing ability and skill throughout the day, including a few really nice extend finishes with his right hand and some impressive step-back jumpers from both the mid-range and perimeter. He also made a number of really high-level passes and showcased good vision and accuracy from a variety of spots on the floor. The rising junior definitely needs to slow down a bit and learn to be more decisive with his movements, but he has time to figure that out and has the physical profile to play at the high D3 level. Hedequist could look a lot different in a couple years with some improved feel.    <h2 class="wp-block-heading">Honorable Mentions</h2>   Koa Mussman—6-foot-6 Forward—Montgomery Blair HS (MD) 2027, Hoopstarz AAU   Mussman didn't initially jump off the page for me, but he has an intriguing combination of size and skill and put himself firmly on my radar by the end of the day. The rising senior is 6-foot-6 but moves well, has good footwork and finishing instincts in the paint, and can knock down shots from three. He runs the floor effectively, he can guard players of all different sizes, and he can pass the ball well as part of an offensive system. Mussman should definitely find a D3 fit and could continue to improve a lot this season as he learns his body more.   Rocco Loomis—5-foot-11 Guard—Rutgers Prep (NJ) 2027, NJ Panthers AAU   Loomis banged his head early on in the day and missed out on some early 5v5 play, but he made his presence felt when he eventually got back out on the floor. The 5-foot-11 guard is undersized, but he has a great feel for the game and understands what to do at a high level. He really took to some of the actions that were taught in 3v3 play and even put his own twist into some of the screening principles—for example, he had a number of phenomenal ghost screens that opened up offense for him and his teammates. He shoots the ball well from three, and he's super under control with the dribble, but he also knows how to pass the ball and set the table for his teammates. Loomis is super crafty and should definitely find a fit at the D3 level.   Ryan Sussberg—6-foot-1 Guard—Scarsdale HS (NY) 2027, Riverside Select HGAL AAU   Sussberg floats. On drives to the rim, offensive rebounds, and jumpers in the paint, the 6-foot-1 guard gets an incredible amount of elevation and has great hang time. He can jump off of one or two feet, and he overwhelmed opposing bigs on a number of occasions with how much explosiveness he has at the rim. Defensively, the Scarsdale HS and Riverside Select HGAL product can guard a number of positions and does a good job using his strength and sturdiness to hang with players of all sizes. Sussberg needs to improve his outside shot a bit, but he's definitely a D3 player.
