Smartball Classic Real 16 Guard Standouts

The Real 16 at the Smartball Classic saw the level of competition pick up as teams battled for a spot in the quarterfinals. With the stakes raised, several prospects stepped up and made their presence felt on both ends of the floor. Here is a closer look at some of the players who stood out during the Round of 16. If last night was any indication, Moore is ready to step into the role of primary guard at Jefferson this season. A quick and crafty guard who is creative off the dribble and a deceptively good finisher, Moore is equal points lead guard and scorer. It will be interesting to see just how his final season plays out. Romeo was electric as a scorer once again, putting up 29 points as Achievement First used a strong second half to get separation from St. Peter's and never looked back. At this point, it's clear that he's wired to put the ball in the basket- and should be amongst the top scorers in the city again this season. Scott was great at getting into the lane and dropping it off to his big men to finish or kicking out to open shooters. A good finisher with plenty of moves to work with, Scott scored in the mid-range as well as at the rim. WIth broad shoulders and long arms, he doesn't appear to be done growing either. Simply put, the breakout is coming at some point this year. A standout at every age group so far, Narcisse shined when given opportunity as a freshman. Now as a sophomore on a team that will be looking for offense next to [player_tooltip player_id='2890712' first='Malick' last='Kamara'], Narcisse will be expected to step up. With good size and vision, he spent most of his round of 16 game setting the table for his teammates, but went on a quick 9-0 run himself in the first half. More minutes this season should do him well. As the top returner production from last season, expectations for Rodriguez's final season are high. A natural scorer who can put points up attacking the rim or from deep, he will be asked to carry a good bit of the offensive load. Local college programs are going to want to keep tabs here. Another talented scorer who will be asked to step into a much bigger role, Jenkins looks more than ready to be a focal point of the Raven attack this season. The guard understands how to use his body to carve out space and get his shot off, and is deceptively athletic. After pinging the D1 radar early, look for those schools to double down on their efforts. The sneaky veteran presence on Scanlan this season, McLaren enters year three with the confidence that this is his time. A crafty and speedy guard off the dribble, he can still set the table for his teammates, but has embraced his ability to put up points in bunches as well. The thought is that Scanlan takes a leap into top 4 of NY/Bronx this Winter, and it will be McLaren leading the way.
