Ohio Freshman Showcase: Team 3 Standouts

On Saturday at Fieldhouse USA in Columbus, Ohio there were plenty of great performances. These five players stood out on team 3.    Chris has a bulky frame at the point guard position and knows how to use it to his advantage. At the Freshman Showcase, he showed off his versatility and ability to impact the game in a variety of ways. When attacking downhill, he displayed several crafty moves around the rim and consistently found ways to create scoring opportunities. He also has a strong handle that allowed him to create separation and get where he wanted on the floor. Chris was a solid rebounder as well, consistently cleaning up the glass. He is a three-level scorer who also brings playmaking ability to his game.     Henry is a lengthy player with a silky-smooth jumper who did a lot of his damage around the elbow. When he caught the ball in that area, he had the ability to rise up for a jumper or use his size and length to post up and knock down fadeaways. His high, quick release made his jumper even more difficult to contest. On the defensive end, Henry was a solid perimeter defender who used his length to bother opposing players. He was active defensively and consistently made things difficult for the players he guarded.     Brayden was the fastest player I watched at the showcase. With the ball in his hands, he was an absolute blur and consistently got to the basket with ease. He loves to attack downhill and showed the ability to finish through contact once he got to the rim. His elite athleticism stood out, as there were multiple occasions where he was able to hang in the air and finish difficult shots. Brayden also does an excellent job changing gears, allowing him to keep defenders off balance while always moving with a purpose. He is a lightning-quick slasher who can also make defenses pay from beyond the arc when left open.     Aaron can flat-out shoot the basketball. He has a lightning-quick release and is never afraid to let it fly when given an opportunity. His shooting ability forces defenses to respect him on the perimeter, but he also brings more to the game than just scoring. Defensively, Aaron did a great job jumping into passing lanes and coming away with multiple steals. He also showed solid playmaking ability, consistently finding open teammates and making the right reads. Aaron does a lot of the little things that impact winning and is the type of player any coach would love to have on their team.     CJ does a little bit of everything on the court, but his on-ball defense was the most impressive part of his game at the showcase. He was extremely difficult to beat off the dribble, as I hardly ever saw an opposing player drive by him. His defensive activity also led to multiple steals, and he never seemed to take a play off. On the offensive end, CJ was an effective playmaker who consistently found teammates cutting to the basket. He also showed the ability to score around the rim, converting multiple contested and crafty layups. CJ's two-way impact made him one of the more well-rounded players at the showcase.
