Lewis and Clark Elite Camp - Top Performers

Lewis & Clark Men's Basketball held its first elite camp in 2026 on Sunday where new head coach Cory Coombe and his assistants helped lead and teach a group of collegiate prospects on campus at Stoller Gymnasium. While the overall attendance was on the smaller side, the competition was intense as players - the majority of whom were from in-state - were hoping to continue developing their skills and make an impression on the River Otters coaching staff. We had the opportunity to watch the majority of camp and after some discussions with the coaching staff, here are the top performers among the participants from Oregon.    Despite the fact his perimeter shot wasn't clicking as much as usual, Khyungra still made a major impression on everyone in attendance as he simply could not be stopped getting to the basket. His incredibly quick first step and overall speed was practically unguardable and when he got into the lane he would either dish it to an open teammate or get the bucket himself, often through contact. The rising La Salle senior guard has yet to receive his first collegiate offer but it likely won't be long before he gets one.     Fresh off a performance that earned him a roster spot offer from Pacific's elite camp, Lugo followed it up with another banner day at Lewis & Clark. The rising Clackamas senior guard simply makes the right plays with the ball in his hands and does a great job of surveying the defense before making the decision to move the ball or seek out his own scoring opportunities. He shot the ball fairly well from the perimeter and was active as a rebounder and defender. His clutch gene shone through as a traditional and-one helped his team win the first game in the 5x5 action.     The first thing we noticed about Nieman since seeing him prior to last season was the rising senior guard has added some muscle to his frame. This in addition to his athleticism helped him to really make an impact at Lewis & Clark camp. He was able to get burst going to the hoop to finish in a variety of ways and his perimeter shot was clicking both from deep and in the mid-range. As he makes the camp circuit rounds, we would not be surprised to see him pick up some offers along the way.     For the second camp in a row, Baertsch Kovalchick really stood out to us with his energy and motor on both sides of the ball. The rising senior guard was constantly in motion and around the basketball, aggressively looking to make plays on offense while really getting into it on the defensive end. He scored the ball reasonably well and there were a couple of times where he caught fire from the outside. To no one's surprise, his shirt was completely soaked with sweat by the end of camp indicating the level of effort he put out on the floor.     One of the tallest players at camp, Yamashita was also arguably the most athletic in the gym. This was clearly evident in the 5x5 games where the rising senior forward was constantly rim running and getting open on the break for a number of impressive breakaway dunks - of which he probably had a total of 6 or 7. In the halfcourt he largely settled for jump shots but he showed good range and was fairly accurate from the corners.
