2027 is a talented year for WPIAL guards. But I wanted to include him in this article because his football accolades somewhat eclipse what he has done on the court, and I think everyone should know that he is also one of the top guards in the WPIAL. What stands out first is how physical Eggerton is. He is aggressive and regularly overpowers the opposition. He might be the best rebounding guard in the WPIAL. Eggerton also has real shooting ability. Defenders have to respect him on the perimeter because he will make them pay if they lose track of him.

[player_tooltip player_id='3675797' first='Mason' last='Aquiline'] is a 2027 guard that I think is going to surprise a lot of people. He has continued to develop over the summer and I think he will be the leader on the court for the Vikings next season. The Central Catholic guard has spent time in a role-player spot behind a strong Vikings backcourt, but he will see a larger role as opportunity comes his way this high school season. He is a legit knock-down shooting threat, especially with his feet set. That said, he is comfortable putting the ball on the floor to create his own opportunities as well. Aquiline is the type of player he really understands the game. He makes smart decisions, and shows passing vision. He works well in transition and in the open court without forcing the action. During AAU play, you could tell he was working on his game by attacking the basket more.

[player_tooltip player_id='3424443' first='Jack' last='Stoessel'] does everything on the court correctly. He is one of the most fundamentally sound players I've reviewed this summer and he is a reliable contributor to whatever team he is on, either during the high school season or AAU. After earning first-team All-Section recognition as a junior and putting together a strong AAU season with Team Wildcat, Stoessel has established himself as one of the more complete guards returning in WPIAL Class 6A. Stoessel is at his best when he uses his shooting threat to put defenders in difficult positions. He is a solid perimeter shooter, especially when his feet are set. His pump fake and baseline drive have become more effective as defenders play him closer. He is comfortable getting to a runner or using the glass. Defensively, Central Catholic regularly used him against talented perimeter scorers during his junior season, and he showed that he could compete possession after possession. [player_tooltip player_id='3424443' first='Jack' last='Stoessel'] has the tools to become an even more important piece for Central Catholic and a guard regional college programs should track closely.

[player_tooltip player_id='2990313' first='Noah' last='Koupiaris'] is a 6'3 point guard who lost much of his junior season to injury, but he is expected to return healthy and ready. His move to Peters Township for his senior season gives him an opportunity to reintroduce himself as one of the WPIAL's more intriguing backcourt prospects. Koupiaris immediately stands out because of the physical advantages. He has excellent size and a big vertical leap. He can elevate over defenders for jump shots, finish above traffic, and absorb contact when he attacks the basket. His athleticism is impressive. His perimeter shooting forces defenses to account for him well beyond the arc. He gets into his jumper quickly off the catch and can also create it off the dribble. However, his deep range is only part of his offensive game. Koupiaris has one of the best first steps in the WPIAL and he does not shy away from contact. He is comfortable taking what the defense allows rather than forcing the same type of shot on every possession. His return from injury will be one of the important WPIAL storylines to follow.

[player_tooltip player_id='3589047' first='Asaan' last='Wallace'] is a true playmaker. He creates off the dribble in ways that other guards in the area flat out can't. He understands when to accelerate but also when to slow the game down. He is an elite finisher for his size. Wallace has shown great poise running point. He protects the basketball and has good court vision. Defensively, Wallace is the best perimeter defender on the floor. He clearly takes pride in that part of his game.
