Freshman Showcase: Eye Catching High Potential Guards

The Freshman Showcase brought together a talented group of guards, and several players gave us plenty to talk about. From confident shot making and explosive drives to impressive playmaking and defensive activity, these guards showed flashes of the tools that could make them special. With plenty of time to develop, this group has the potential to make a major impact as their high school careers continue to unfold.    Knowles showed a good feel for the game during the showcase, consistently keeping his eyes up and reading the floor. He did a nice job seeing plays develop and finding teammates in scoring position, leading to several good opportunities for others. Knowles wasn't forcing the action and instead let the game come to him, making smart decisions with the ball. His ability to read the floor and create for teammates made him a steady presence throughout the showcase     Sauve was one of the more entertaining players to watch throughout the showcase, bringing an aggressive team first mindset to the showcase. He pushed the pace in transition and showed the ability to go coast to coast, finishing plays with confidence at the rim. In the half court Sauve used his handle to break defenders down and get his team into good scoring positions. What continued to stand out was his willingness to make plays for others, consistently finding teammates and producing a handful of assists per game. His combination of downhill pressure, playmaking and pace made him a constant problem     Macias was simply a bucket throughout the showcase, showing off a smooth shooting stroke that made him tough to keep in check. He knocked down contested jumpers with confidence and showed impressive range, forcing defenders to stay attached whenever he had the ball. When he put the ball on the floor, Macias had a nice up and under move that helped him finish around the basket. He just kept finding ways to score, whether it was from deep, in the midrange or attacking the rim. Once he got rolling, slowing him down became a serious challenge     Pena brought the kind of nonstop energy that immediately stood out during the showcase. He never seemed willing to give up on a play, constantly hustling and competing from one possession to the next. He was active defensively using his effort and instincts to come up with multiple steals and deflections that helped create extra opportunities for his team. He made his presence felt without needing the ball in his hands, flying around the floor and making winning plays. That motor and competitive edge made Pena a player who was easy to notice every time he stepped on the court     Noll brought a competitive edge to the showcase and consistently found ways to make an impact. He battled hard on the glass, showing a willingness to mix it up and chase down rebounds on both ends. Once his shot started falling, Noll really turned it on from three, knocking down shots and quickly putting points on the board. He has the ability to heat up in a hurry, and when he found his rhythm, the scoring came in bunches. His combination of toughness on the boards and shot making ability made him a fun player to track throughout the day     Little was in control throughout the showcase, doing a great job of running the offense and making smart reads with the ball in his hands. He consistently recognized mismatches and attacked them with confidence, scoring with ease when he saw an advantage. His spin move stood out as a nice weapon, creating separation and giving him another way to get into scoring positions. Little also showed good feel for the floor, knowing when to attack and when to keep things moving.
