2030 Wings to Watch at Prep Hoops Frosh Showcase

The annual Prep Hoops Wisconsin Freshmen Showcase is set for September 5th at the Community First Champion Center in Appleton. It will be the first time to get a look at many of the top prospects in the state in the class of 2030. Here is a quick rundown of some of the better wing prospects among the 85-plus players registered to participate in the event. Registrations are still being accepted for the Showcase. Dominican has a strong 2030 class, anchored by Cook and point guard [player_tooltip player_id='2404462' first='Jahir' last='Craig']. Cook and Craig both compete for the extremely talented [program_tooltip program_id='2076433' first='Kevon' last='Looney Power 5'] squad that played up a division in many club events over the spring and summer. The son of former Milwaukee Hamilton and University of Oregon star [player_tooltip player_id='2404780' first='Elgin' last='Cook'], Cook Jr. is a combination guard with a good feel for the game and chance to work his way into the regular playing rotation for first-year coach Marc Mitchell at Dominican in 2026-27.     Flanigan fits in perfectly for the up-tempo style Winneconne likes to employ as he has a quick release from deep and the results are more often than not positive when he lets go from beyond three-point range. The son of Winneconne coach, John Flanigan, Nolan will team with talented class of 2029 guard [player_tooltip player_id='2436991' first='Drew' last='Lenz'] to form a dynamic and high-scoring backcourt duo for the Wolves over the next three seasons. Defensively, Flanigan is aggressive and moves well laterally so he can impact the game on that end of the court as well.     A physically advanced 2030 prospect who competes with a nose for the basket and the ability to score against older players, Gardner looks to find a niche this winter with the always-strong program at Columbus Catholic. He comes in prepared as he is able to take a bump or two on drives to the basket while finishing at the rim. Also a capable shooter from the perimeter, Gardner will need to get acclimated to the speed of the varsity game, like almost all freshmen, but he showed over the summer he is poised to make a significant contribution as the Dons set out to win another Cloverbelt East Conference championship.     A key player for a [program_tooltip program_id='2512324' first='Wisconsin' last='Legends'] squad that experienced a good deal of success on the 14U club circuit, Heck is a good-sized combination guard with excellent skills and a very good feel for the game. The Phantoms have a deep roster with plenty of gifted upperclassmen, but Heck might have what it takes to make the varsity squad this winter. He is the younger brother of former West DePere standout Ethan Heck, a 1,000-point high school scorer now playing at NCAA Division II Michigan Tech,     The next in line from the Krause family, Jackson joins older brother Jordan in the Thunder program and has a shot at making an immediate impact for coach Bobby Kuchta. A good athlete with the ability to dunk the ball and use his length and mobility to disrupt things on defense, Krause brings good size to the Seymour backcourt that already boasts stellar performers in his older brother and junior Teague Cornell. The Thunder finished 28-2 and lost to Racine St. Catherine's in the WIAA Division 3 title game last March and looks to defend its Bay Conference title in 2026-27.     The beat rolls on at De Pere, one of the truly elite programs in the state and one that annually churns out outstanding basketball players. The 2030 class for the Redbirds is another strong one with Nowak near the top of promising prospects for coach Brian Winchester. He played alongside Heck with the [program_tooltip program_id='2512324' first='Wisconsin' last='Legends'] this spring and summer and proved to be one of the top players on a very good club squad.     One of the top players in the 2030 class in northern Wisconsin, Schultz plans to make the drive down to Appleton to take part in the Prep Hoops Wisconsin Freshmen Showcase. Known as a very good shooter, Schultz was one of the top players on the Superior youth program over the past few seasons and figures to make a push for a varsity spot with the Spartans this winter, thanks in large part to his ability to make shots.     A player who does most of his damage around the basket, Thompson uses his size and skill to score near the hoop. He is able to step away from the basket to pass or make a mid-range jumper, but he is at his best in the lane, particularly if opponents cannot match his size. Thompson hopes to make an impression early for the Appleton East program looking to move upward after a difficult season a year ago.     Webb is one of the better prospects in the state's 2030 class and is coming off a strong spring/summer with the [program_tooltip program_id='2391400' first='Team' last='Herro'] EYBL squad. A Plymouth resident who plans to open enroll at Elkhart Lake, Webb figures to make an immediate impact for the Resorters thanks to his skill, size and athleticism. Webb joins sharpshooting junior guard [player_tooltip player_id='2613973' first='Brayden' last='Smith'] in giving Elkhart Lake one of the top one-two scoring punches in the Big East North Conference.
