Brody is an intriguing long-term prospect to keep an eye on out of Appleton East. He already stands at 6’5 coming into high school, and moves well at that size out on the perimeter. In the game I watched he checked in after five minutes, and immediately drained a three from the corner. Seems like one of those players who could develop into a mismatch nightmare down the road with his combination of size and perimeter skill.
Thompson played alongside 6-foot-7 Clintonville forward/center Raymund DeJesus and excelled while catching the ball along the baseline and using his quick first step and length to soar to the basket. While DeJesus was spending his time scoring in the lane, Thompson showed the ability to score near the hoop, but he also flashed some perimeter skills and the strong desire to drive the ball. On the other end of the floor, Thompson’s length and mobility are assets as he can guard different positions and also use his length to block shots and his jumping ability to snare rebounds and start a fast break.
A player who does most of his damage around the basket, Thompson uses his size and skill to score near the hoop. He is able to step away from the basket to pass or make a mid-range jumper, but he is at his best in the lane, particularly if opponents cannot match his size. Thompson hopes to make an impression early for the Appleton East program looking to move upward after a difficult season a year ago.
Thompson looked every bit the part of an elite, high-upside prospect. At 6’4 with exceptional length, he was an absolute matchup nightmare on the perimeter and in the paint. When the ball was in his hands, defense’s shifted entirely to contain him, yet Thompson consistently displayed a relentless will to score, routinely powering through initial defenders and help-side rotation alike. Beyond his offensive gravity, he anchored the paint for Team 1, protecting the rim and cleaning up the glass on both ends of the floor. His two-way impact was one of the major storylines of the weekend.
