Rockford Guilford 2030 power forward
Mamadou Baker
Mamadou
Baker
has proven to be one of the premier post players early on in the class of 2030. We have seen him in three different settings since June with high school team during the high school live periods, along with
Team FVV
on the Prep Hoops Circuit, and then he shined at the Prep Hoops Freshman Showcase this past weekend.
The 6'7” four man is a fluid prospect that works well in the pick/roll, is quick to the offensive glass for second chance points, and sealed off well on the block for scores. Sweeping layups showing he could put it on the deck a couple of dribbles. Also impressed defensively with how he can defend in space, protect the rim, and rebounded well in his area. Extremely intriguing tools early in the process for a young big man with a frame that is super projectable.
He spoke about his experience at the Freshman Showcase.
“The camp went well. My team we played like a team sharing the ball the whole time.”
How would he describe his game?
“I can score on all three levels and can handle the ball too.”
Baker played in some big time environments during the June live periods in front of a lot of people in his first experience with his new squad coming in from 8th grade.
“It was nice. The JV we were playing well together. On varsity we played in front of a lot of college coaches. I got enough playing time to show coaches what I can do at the college level.”
Although freshman do not get really recruited much early in the process any more with the way college basketball is it isn't a shocker the one school that has shown early interest!
“I have heard from Wichita State. I know that Fred (VanVleet) went there from Rockford and that can get me somewhere.”
