June was a busy month full of basketball to say the least. PHI was in every corner of the state checking out games and evaluating players on their scholastic teams everyday. While we are already a week into travel basketball season in July, today we are taking you through a 3 part recap series that showcases additional names from the month of June who had positive showings. In segment number 2, we will analyze a half of dozen more prospects at the guard position who are under the radar.

Fitzgerald can fit into a swing 3 man role either as a secondary guard or as a small forward. I watched the Boylan team play a couple of times at the Rockford East Summer League and he consistently helped impact on both ends with feel and a selfless approach. In the transition phase he filled lanes and can attack off that primary break phase with a couple other quick talented guards. His court vision is adequate as well and he showed that through pitch ahead passes or connecting with teammates on off ball cutters. His IQ and ability to make correct reads keeps offense within flow for efficient opportunities.

A next up guard for a newer look Hono squad. Gilbertson fits the mold of a knock down perimeter threat that can catch fire quickly. A spacing challenge that moves with pace and space to open up the floor and relocate. He shows a strong feel for pushing the ball in transition and making the most of opportunities when break numbers are there. His aggressive tough nosed demeanor impacts both sides of the ball. Defensively he can provide activity in the back court assisting in turnovers and helping create extra possessions. He demonstrates confidence in multiple phases and will fill a big role during his senior year.

I caught Bramble play in the Rockford East Summer league during June with Beloit Turner. The 6'1 guard can fit into a 1 or 2 man's role and provide offensive production at either or. He can score it from 3 levels while making sound decisions with the ball in his hands. Offensively off penetration drives he draws contact to get to the stripe and showed confident in his shot off the bounce or in catch and shoot scenarios. Facilitating wise, he also created for others off the break phase and made spray outs after getting touches in the paint. His skill level will continuously provide an offensive spark.

Lewis flashes a polished offensive game with his ability to stretch the floor and create for others. I watched Belvidere North in the final week of their East Summer League action and he knocked down multiple catch and shoot 3's off of primary action during the break phase or on swing passes in the 1/2 court setting. Lewis is comfortable squaring up from the corners or wings to knock shots down at a high clip. Off the bounce he has the ability to collapse the defense to tally up the assist department and did so via a baseline drive wrap around pass and a drop off underneath to a forward. His balanced blend of perimeter shot making and IQ of the game gives him a vantage point. Playing alongside a talented floor general this year, he will be a continuous spacing threat beyond the arc for the Blue Thunder during his junior campaign.

Morehead displays an advanced scoring package that has improved even more since his junior campaign. The crafty lead guard for the Pretzels consistently creates separation on a shifty handle while comfortably getting to his spots for pull-up high rise jumpers or splashing home 3's at high clip. He is able to get defenders off balance with some shake in his dribble and then use his quick first step to get by. In the transition game, Morehead pushes the ball on the primary break phase to create opportunities for himself and others with plus speed. He excels with solid bounce at the cup on his finishes and is confident approaching bigger sized bodies in that department because of his fluid athletic ability. His versatility and two-way impact will create advantages in multiple facets of the game through his senior year. As the only junior on the NIC10 first team list this past season from a conference that put 2 teams in a sectional final, Morehead should make an argument as an MVP candidate.

I caught Hononegah play in the Rockford East Summer league during its' last week of June. McLarty is a 6'0 shooting guard with a pure and balanced stroke from beyond the perimeter that runs in the family. He provides confident and reliable shot making ability as a 2 man off of catch and shoots or the dribble. I tallied him for 3 3's in the team's last game of the night at an efficient clip. His shot is fundamentally pure throughout. He consistently found open space beyond the arc and stayed shot ready with his hands and feet triggered to fire. McLarty's ability to stretch the defense out makes him a constant offensive threat while opening up room for others on the interior.
