AAU World Championships: 8th Grade Backcourt Standouts

Orlando, FL — The 8th Grade AAU World Championships provided another strong evaluation setting with 42 teams from across the country competing in the Division I bracket at the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex. Over the course of the event, a number of prospects strengthened their stock with their play against quality competition. As we begin our coverage, we start in the backcourt, where several guards separated themselves through their skill level, decision-making, production, and overall feel for the game...    Kardan Adams showed a lot to like with his play at the AAU World Championships. The point guard played with good pace and feel, making sound decisions while staying aggressive when opportunities presented themselves. He got into the paint consistently, attacked the rim with confidence, and created advantages for his team with the ball in his hands. Adams was a steady presence throughout and played a major part in generating offense for the New York Gauchos.     Jason Banamba had several moments at the AAU World Championships where he simply looked like the best offensive player on the floor. The Canadian guard has a natural ability to get to his spots, and his size gives him an advantage once defenders try to crowd him. He never appeared rushed with the ball in his hands and did a good job picking his opportunities to score. When his team needed offense, Banamba was often the one they turned to.     Joshua Clark put together one of his more consistent performances to date at the AAU World Championships. He was productive with the ball in his hands, creating offense while knocking down some difficult looks along the way. The pace of the game seemed to suit him, and he looked comfortable operating as a primary option. One of the more encouraging takeaways was his leadership, as he was noticeably more vocal and engaged than we've seen in previous evaluations.     Charles Davis IV showed a lot of positive signs at the AAU World Championships. He played with an aggressive mindset, constantly looking for opportunities to put pressure on the defense and create offense. His ability to score in different ways stood out, whether attacking the basket, making plays in space, or capitalizing on scoring chances within the flow of the game. If he continues to string together performances like this, his name should start gaining more traction across South Carolina.     Harlem Graham is starting to look like a prospect who deserves more national attention in the class of 2030. The Canadian guard has a natural scoring instinct and a knack for finding offense without forcing the issue. He can get hot in a hurry, but what stood out at the AAU World Championships was his ability to create for others when defenses started loading up on him. Those playmaking flashes, paired with his scoring ability, make him a difficult matchup and a player capable of shifting momentum in a game.     Heir Jackson continued to validate his standing among the top prospects in the class of 2030 at the AAU World Championships, helping guide AB Elite to a championship. The athletic guard impacted the game in a variety of ways with his blend of size, burst, and overall skill level. There were multiple stretches where he generated offense on his own, whether attacking downhill, pushing the pace in transition, or creating off the bounce. The development of his jumper remains encouraging, and when paired with his handle and athleticism, it makes him a difficult cover for opposing defenses.     Brody Johnson was one of the more composed floor generals at the AAU World Championships. His feel for the game stood out, particularly his ability to balance scoring and facilitating without forcing the action. Johnson kept his team organized, made timely reads, and consistently put teammates in good spots. When defenses gave him space, he was comfortable getting to his mid-range game, where he showed good touch and confidence.     Eddie Rios III is making noticeable strides with both his skill set and physical development. The son of former Miami standout Eddie Rios, he has emerged as one of the top shooters in the class of 2030. His catch-and-shoot ability remains a major strength, but the improvement in his ability to create his own shot has been equally encouraging. At the AAU World Championships, there were several stretches where his shot-making provided a needed offensive boost and helped drive his team's success.     Jacques Solomon Jr. continued his strong play at the AAU World Championships and remains a prospect trending in the right direction. The physical development is becoming more noticeable as he continues to add size and length to his frame. He is an advanced creator with the ball in his hands, consistently making reads and keeping the offense organized. Solomon showed the ability to control tempo, create opportunities for teammates, and generate offense when needed. His feel for the position continues to point toward significant long-term upside as a lead guard.     Landon Weeks was one of the more explosive offensive guards at the AAU World Championships. He has the ability to put points on the board in a hurry, highlighted by a jumper that can heat up quickly and stretch defenses. Weeks also brings a high-level athletic element to the floor, allowing him to make plays above the rim and create advantages in the open court.
