We recently updated our 2029 class rankings, and in my 10 years of working for Prep Hoops VA this one is looking like it could be very special. With 75 players ranked currently, we take a look at part one of the prospects in the Northern VA area.

#3) [player_tooltip player_id='2440984' first='Brayden' last='Ragland'] | 6'6” PF | Highland School

Ragland is a player who is so far beyond his years, as he was one of the youngest players in the Elite Prep League last year and showed that he had no issue playing and producing at a high rate against much older players. The 6'6” forward draws comparisons to Grant Williams as he may be undersized but he's a big strong presence in the low post who is surprisingly explosive as a finisher around the rim, he can post and use his strength with good post moves and soft touch on the block, he can step out and stretch the floor from deep, and he's a plug and play guy who can play all over the floor for them.

#6) Kenneth “KJ” Rivers | 5'11” PG | PVI

Rivers didn't get a ton of time for PVI as a freshman considering they were the Chipotle national runner-ups last year, but at DMV Live 1 he was their first guy off the bench and showed his ability to run the show and make plays off the bounce. He has great speed in the open floor and a lightning quick first step, he keeps it on a string as a shifty ball handler who can change speeds well, he can get in the paint and make plays for himself or finish over bigger defenders, and he's a good on ball defender as well.

#7) [player_tooltip player_id='2767889' first='Alex' last='Alexander'] | 6'10” C | Gillion Academy

Alexander is a Texas native who transferred to Gillion over the summer, and in Session 1 of DMV Live he showed he has as much potential as any prospect in this class not just in the state, but possibly in the country. At 6'10” he moves extremely well for his size as he runs the floor like a gazelle and is quick twitch in the paint, he finishes well with both hands around the rim, he is an excellent rebounder and rim protector in the paint, and he shows signs of being able to work on the perimeter as he continues to develop moving forward.

#8) [player_tooltip player_id='3538905' first='Kenny' last='Boyd III'] | 6'4” SF | PVI

Boyd is one of a number of PVI young players that we are starting to see more of after the departure of their seniors that were some of the best in school history, and he's shown he's going to be a big time prospect moving forward. At 6'4” he already has good positional size and a good frame that will only continue to fill out, he gets downhill aggressively and is a good finisher around the rim, he is capable of making shots from multiple levels off the catch and off the bounce, and he has a huge upside on the defensive end as well.

#9) Harlem Nunez | 6'9” C | The Saint James

Nunez transfers to Saint James from Mount Zion where he showed he's one of the best young prospects in the DMV, and I fully believe he'll climb this list to contend for the top spot as he continues to improve. The 6'9” big man is an athletic freak for his size as he is able to get out in transition with the guards and chase people down on the defensive end, he plays above the rim with both ease and a lot of authority looking to dunk everything, he has a tremendous motor and treats every play like it's like the NBA Championship, and he has some serious upside with his base skillset on the perimeter as well.

#12) [player_tooltip player_id='2887076' first='Jordan' last='Mason'] | 6'2” CG | The Saint James

Mason is another new name for this Saint James squad as he transferred this summer after playing last year at Huntington Prep in West Virginia, and the Richmond native has a lot of game that he brings to this backcourt who is need of a playmaker. The 6'2” combo is a dual threat guard who can make plays for others and can fill it up himself, he has good wiggle with the ability to create space and use hesitations to blow by defenders, he has a good feel and sees the floor to set his teammates up, and he's a physical guard who won't back down from any matchup no matter who it is.

#17) [player_tooltip player_id='3538912' first='Jaydon' last='Harris'] | 6'3” CG | Westfield

The younger brother of former PVI legend and current Indiana Hoosier Darren Harris, Jaydon is different from his brother but is a prospect for coaches to watch as well as he continues to come into his own. The 6'3” combo has good positional size and terrific feel with the ball in his hands, he plays at his own cadence and does a good job getting downhill where he can finish or make plays for others, he can knock down shots at a high clip from deep, and he is a tough nosed and stingy on ball defender as well.

#20) [player_tooltip player_id='3538915' first='Travis' last='Clegg'] | 6'3” SG | PVI

Clegg is another of the young PVI players who are starting to show what they can do, and he's having a good summer with TTO and with PVI in the DMV Live sessions. The 6'3” lefty is a high academic and high IQ prospect with good size and athleticism, he's quick off the bounce with the ability to get downhill and finish over bigger defenders, he can score it off the catch and off the bounce from all three levels, and he brings a lot of toughness on both ends of the floor too.
