Friday I attended the Lindenwood Basketball Team Camp in St. Charles, MO. It is one of my favorite early must attend events each year to see teams from Missouri and Illinois. For us in particular we were focused on the metro east talent on Friday. The top 3 seniors in the metro east all played and had strong showings. New names emerged, players broke out, and multiple 2030 put themselves on the map. Let's dive into it with Lindenwood Team Camp: Scotty B's Metro East Notebook!

Lloyd Checks Alot of Boxes for Belleville West

The prospect I was most looking forward to seeing at the event was Belleville West 2027 wing J'dyn Lloyd. We know he can score it and he did which we will get to, but it was his overall game that impressed us the most. Early on in their first contest he came out in attack mode looking to set others up. Consistently gets two feet in the paint and was slicing guys up with his dishes. On the perimeter he made good decisions on the fly playing on the ball quite a bit and was a connective passer making the extra pass. Really liked how he cut off the ball behind the zone defense along with moving without the ball to get open for multiple threes off movement. Shot it solid throughout the day including a nice cross into a pull up two. Attacked with his strength especially on the baseline for multiple reverse layups and finished through contact for and-1s. Rebounded well for a wing and we thought he competed defensively with active hands creating turnovers which often turned into points. In the opener we had him for 22 points. Class of 2028 post Amauri Fenton is a post with some upside in the rising junior class. Active offensive rebounder, very good post defender walling up, and finished out of the dunker spot. TJ Cason is a utility guard with a long and lean frame. Threw down a nasty dunk, couple nice passes, and is slippery with his handles.

Defending Champs East St. Louis Balance and Athleticism Pop

Jamo is headed to SLU, but the Flyers will look to make up for his massive production with others stepping up and the depth of their squad. Top 30 2027 point guard Phillip Jones is a freak athlete! He plays well above the rim as he caught a one handed alley-oop followed by a tip slam. Burst with the rock in his hands pushing with his speed putting defenders in spin cycles in the lane getting to the cup. Rebounds well for his size and is a crisp passer making smart decisions in the half court. Solid three point shooter especially off the catch. Terriyon Webster had a big time day! He looked taller and longer along with being more athletic if that is possible. Long and lean two guard consistently got out in transition for explosive slams. He was at his best playing off his defense getting steals for transition dunks. Shot it more consistently than we had seen in the past which will be a big boost to his stock if he does this during live period. Devrice Johnson is a 6'0” strong bodied guard that does a little bit of everything for this team with his defense, passing, and spot up shooting. The last rising senior is Tyrik Barnes. The Flyers senior post has been on the radar since his freshman year. He has the prospect look and showed flashes getting on the offensive glass multiple times and moved his feet well defensively. Class of 2028 6'3” wing Jamir Allen is primed to debut in our 2028 update on Monday. Pogo stick athlete that we caught at Show Me Showdown and we can see the role he will play on this team. Quick to the offensive glass, quality defender, and thunderous finisher around the cup. Their best long term prospect is 2029 Emurion Jackson. Such a smooth guard that can play on and off the ball. He is a very good passer that rebounds for his position. Monster on the defensive end with his instincts at a young age along with his length getting out in the open floor for finishes. Shoots a clean ball that should translate well over time.

Howard Takes Over in Alton Second Half Win

Alton 2027 shooting guard Ryan Howard was a non factor in the first half of their opening game, but he turned it up a notch in the second half. Flipped the switch and that changed the outcome of the game as he helped the Redbirds win. His biggest strength is his shot making from three. We have known for years he can do that, but we wanted to see if his game is becoming more complete. Well he did that shot faking against close outs attacking the rack for buckets at the cup. Ran the floor hard in transition for several scores and rebounded well.

Collinsville Has New Look

CaMauri Mayes had a nice day for Collinsville. The lefty angular guard was assertive pressing the issue throughout the game we saw. Multiple threes along with several and-1s where he displayed nice body control. Small colleges should check him out. Jeremiah Rush is a guard with some projection and length in 2029 that is a name to track. Class of 2028 five man Theo Tallbot has legit size as a five man that rebounded in his area. Kaleb Garcia in the 2029 class is the highest ceiling prospect of this group. Pushing 6'8” already the center has the physical tools to be good. High pointed a few rebounds and passed it well. Still growing into the player he will become.

O'Fallon Fun Group to Watch Despite Missing Top Senior

The Panthers of O'Fallon were without Sutton Massey on Friday, but they still proved to be a fun team to watch. Their leader is 2028 point guard Maddox Blaha. He is small, but has shifty handles, float game, and makes nice reads in the pick/roll. Can pull up for a deep three. Paxton Meadows is a long and thin 2028 6'7” five man who will need to fill out his frame, but there are a lot of tools to work with. Really liked how he worked in the pick/roll game showcasing touch around the cup. Couple nice hook shots and a high/low finish. Protected the rim on the defensive end blocking shots. The last 2028 we wanted to hit on is Teddy Russeau. Free and easy shooting stroke from three, quality ball handler, and is a solid athlete.

First Look at 2030 Prospects

Four prospects in the 2030 from the metro east made their first impressions with their new high school teams. Starting with Belleville West 6'2” combo guard Cameron Murkey Jr. who really caught our attention with his instincts for the game. The two guard made consistent reads on the move throughout the day as a passer that really impressed. Good built with length and projectability. Cut well off the ball and made some hustle plays including sprinting down to contest a shot at the rim. Good handle and flashed a sweet float game. East St. Louis 6'4” forward DeAngelo Taylor is a broad shouldered four man that has a nice frame and rebounded well in his area along with catching a lob. O'Fallon had a pair of 2030s that made an impression. Ramez Rias is a 6'3” shooting guard with broad shoulders and good length. Slick ball handler who created off the dribble being fouled on a sweet euro step. Also knocked down shots working in the mid-range on several turnaround jumpers. Nate Nicholson is a 6'6” power forward that has a good frame, rebounds well in area, and blocked shots. Will need some time, but the tools are there!
