The Prep Hoops Circuit fired up for a rare June AAU event this past weekend outside of Detroit. Coined the Great Lakes Closer, the small field still produced some solid play. Following are standouts from Sunday action in the 16U division.

[player_tooltip player_id='3584312' first='Evan' last='Jahn'] 6-3 St Joseph's Catholic (Canada) On Saturday I highlighted physicality of the dominant Rise Up Elite backcourt. While they were still undefeated and were dominant on Sunday. They were pushed a bit by a local Cho-Zen Elite squad in the first half. Jahn came up big as a distributor to help his squad pull away in the second half. Good look ahead passer who keyed plenty of his squad's transition opportunities. Unselfish player who threw a handful of nice lobs. Did much more than pass. The lefty showed a smooth release from beyond the arc. Good movement shooter who hit from difficult angles. Also had the size and elevation to shoot over most defenders.

[player_tooltip player_id='2479944' first='Christopher' last='Hunter'] 5-8 Troy The diminutive [program_tooltip program_id='2076061' first='Detroit' last='Bulldogs'] trigger man had a strong weekend. Nothing too flashy, just steady point guard play. Good ball handler who protected the ball well. Showed deep range from the perimeter. Has a high arching shot. This helps him get it off against bigger defenders. Plays in a regular season program that has pretty good recent history of developing point guards. Will need to get bigger and stronger to the next step in his development, but there is some potential here.

Braylin Campbell 5-6 Ecorse From one diminutive point guard to another. Campbell was explosive with ball in hands. Aggressive penetrator who was not afraid to go down among the trees. Fierce competitor who ran a little hot at times. With his size that is not necessarily a bad thing. Showed the ability to pass off the live dribble. Held up decently against a undefeated Canadian squad that featured a big and dogged backcourt (see above) Like Hunter plays at program that has produced some decent point guard play over the years. Campbell will need to be pretty good from the perimeter to make up for his size. But the Downriver region is known for producing point guards in this mold.

Tyreek Wlliams 6-3 Romulus I did not see this player with Cho-Zen Elite on Saturday. On Sunday, played well against a Rise Up Elite Canada squad that was probably the top team of the weekend regardless of division. Wing with good size and length. Though quite slender did not seem to mind banging down low. Good elevation and got off the ground quickly. Showed a quick secomd jump on the glass as well. Feels like it's been a minute since Romulus has produced some college level talent. After watching Williams with 2029 point guard [player_tooltip player_id='2838503' first='Fred' last='Blackmon'] this weekend, that could change in the next few years.

[player_tooltip player_id='3564605' first='Treyton' last='Selbig'] 6-2 Perry (pictured) Flint area Shoebox Elite drew a bit of a short straw with only a six player rotation. This was due to an injury to their skilled point guard. Selbig who is more of a scoring forward split duties with a teammate and slid into a playmaking role nicely. The transition was smoothed by a good ball handling skillset. Played with his head up and got teammates involved. Jack of all trades type players who can score at all three levels. At the rim is the only part that might need improvement. Isn't an explosive leaper. Makes up for it with a creative finishing package and a nice use various Euro steps. I caught this player a lot in the spring. Has some potential if the frame catches up to the skill level.

[player_tooltip player_id='3532633' first='Noah' last='Sills'] 6-2 Blissfield Competitive player who got a lot work playing with both Michigan Jayhawk squads. Tested himself by playing with the 17U squad as well. A good athlete who got out transition. In the half court stayed in motion off the ball and found ways to get open. Good spot up shooter, especially from the short corner. Had a nice release with sound mechanics. Willing passer who showed the ability to play the point as well.
