GBCA SE Regional Live Sunday Frontcourt Beasts

Teams from the Southeast region descended on the Lakepoint Champions Center in Emerson, GA, for another edition of the GBCA SE Regional Live Period event. There was plenty of size in the gym, from Euro bigs to bully centers, as I kept my focus on Florida teams.    It was borderline unfair as Jenkins bullied his way past just about everyone, suiting up for Riviera Prep out of Miami. The sheer bulk of his frame, taken together with some really nifty feet and soft hands, made the matchups too easy for the burly big man. He was one of the few guys on the day that had my mouth agahst as I legitimately feared for those in his path to the basket. Interest from Kentucky makes all the sense in the world for the OTE product.     A lot of head scratching along the sidelines when Sibal and Columbus took the floor, as he's a very new name on the scene, and as we scoured social media for info, we found some background, and then watched his play. He's a prototypical Euro big, likes to spot up at the three-point line, has pretty good foot speed to guard smaller forwards, and his length for days is an obvious asset. Smooth stroke from distance takes him out of the Euro "project" category, as he's clearly been coached and has some polish. This is a monster name emerging from the weekend, and one everyone will be hearing more about.     Joining Sibal, and another overseas 7-footer in Martin Simko, was Nyok, a much more refined offensive player, much like what we see from African nationals in Georgia who generally end up at Greenforest Academy. Runs like a gazelle and has near limitless vertical potential at both ends, but also showed off some real offensive moxie and savvy, picking his spots wisely, and knocking down J's from multiple ranges. He has supposedly taken major strides in the last year, so the high majors are in his DM's for sure.     Doesn't appear to have a ton of help on the Calvary roster, as a highly athletic Queens Grant team from NC blew past them. But I had seen Geiger three years ago as a riser, and he has fulfilled all that we all could see coming. Reminds me very much of Thomas Haugh from the Florida Gators, and if he can fashion his frame to match the muscular Haugh, he has more in his tool kit than the Gators star currently shows off. There is no offensive category that he cannot dominate in a game if he wishes. Be interesting to see where his varied offensive game takes him next fall.     Blair had coaches buzzing along the sidelines, as he just kept on doing things that impressed and played with a motor and unselfishness that was refreshing. He's a powerhouse-looking athlete, has a glide that is sneaky, and when he went to the well offensively, we saw the jump-hook game, the short finishes around the cup, plenty of power, and plenty of will. Coach Tarrik Mabon has done great things at First since leaving Georgia, and this was a team loaded with athletic guards as well, very balanced around Blair, who, as a centerpiece that requires extra attention, opens things up for others.
