GBCA Live Period: The Walker School vs Pickens Standouts

Essien has a nice variety of post moves including hooks, and step throws to combat with his brute force inside. He is an explosive athlete who can dunk anything in the lane and will put you on a poster if you jump with him. Also a nice passer out of the post. Made some nice passes out of the post to find open shooters. He's got a nice tight handle that is shifty with the ability to score it in a variety of ways. He did a nice job getting to his pull up mid range jumper which looks smooth when it's in his hands. He made a lot of really impressive passes as well which made him that much more dangerous today. On the defensive end he's got quick feet and a nice frame that helps him stay in front of quick ball handlers. He's got an electric first step that leaves defenders in the dust. He is an allusive finisher around the rim, taking contact as well as changing angles while in the air to finish some tough buckets in the lane. I loved the passion he played with on the defensive end as well. He's got quick hands and set feet that make him shot ready at any time. He doesn't need much space to knock it down either. Really like his IQ moving off the ball as well. Always spacing out and finding gaps in defenses as well as turned heads to get easy looks from beyond the arc. He's got a nice dribble drive game as well and used his body to score and draw contact when attacking high hand closeouts that tried to take away his outside jumper. He makes his team around him better by doing the things a true point guard should. A great passer who is always looking for open guys and an elite shooter who can spark a run on his own in a hurry. He battles in the lane to score some tough buckets off pump fakes combined with some nice footwork. He does a ton of the intangibles as well rebounding, blocking shots, and bringing high energy to an undersized but scrappy group. He's always moving off the ball to create space off pin downs and other cuts for easy looks from downtown. Has beautiful picture perfect form and looks money every time he lets it go. His quick release with his intelligence moving off the ball makes him a legit small college prospect that can make a big impact at the next level.
