I spent all day Friday at the second session of DMV Live at DeMatha Catholic and Seton HS to get a look at a varied group of high school teams competing in the second scholastic session. There was some additions and subtractions to rosters of teams in between the two scholastic live periods sprinkled in with a new wave of different teams-- mainly from the Northeast. In this article we'll break down some of the top wing and forward prospects that stood out to me on Friday! Let's dive in!

-Continue to come away impressed with the consistency and feel from the sophomore big that is a steady threat for double-double performances on a team that is working in some new pieces. Potter averaged 16 points and 7 rebounds a game on 58% shooting over the course of the weekend as a low post scorer and roll threat that has a nice set of hands to catch and finish in tight spaces in the paint. His conditioning continues to improve to allow him to play for longer stretches, duck in harder to create easy looks at the rim, and knock down jumpers from the elbows on tired legs. Potter's offensive positioning to yo-yo move with slashing ball-handlers to be in position for drop-off passes has always been there but he has improved his defensive rotations as a helper that isn't blocking a ton of shots yet but fills up space in the paint to deter drivers and challenges shots to disrupt his opponent's offensive flow.

-Tchoubfong looked good in new threads on Falls Road as an efficient scorer that has improved his shot IQ to serve as a primary scoring option for Bullis. He attacked closeouts well from the wing, took good angles to the rim to score before help could arrive in transition, knocked down jumpers off the catch, and moved well off-ball to score on layups off of cuts to the rim. Tchoubfong is on an unofficial visit to La Salle today-- and if he continues to score the ball within the flow of the game while giving Bullis a versatile defensive presence that can guard multiple spots-- I expect his recruitment to pick up over the next few months.

-Ekutshu's motor really stood out as an energetic forward prospect that takes pride in sprinting the floor as hard as he possibly can to come up with putbacks and lob finishes at the offensive end. Ekutshu's touch is solid around the basket and always stays solid to make sure his screens hit somebody to free up his guards before popping or rolling to the rim. He blocked 4 shots in his first game of the day and 2 against Clinton Grace as a bouncy frontcourt prospect that has excellent timing on his jumps to contest shots without falling for pump fakes whether he is on or off-ball. If he can continue to add to his offensive repertoire, he should get recruited by schools as a rim protector and play-finisher that doesn't need the ball in his hands to impact winning on a consistent basis.

-Shields had some nice flashes as a bouncy wing that guarded several positions in a matchup against an ACF team with a ton of positional size. Shields started things off with a thunderous 2-handed lob finish in transition, knocked down a midrange jumper, and crashed to the rim to snag offensive rebounds to either score or bring the ball out to run a set play looking for a bucket. Currently a jack of all trades master of none with a diverse skillset--I think he is an assertive mindset away from being a high-ceiling prospect capable of filling the stat sheet.

-Briscoe has always been a capable scorer on the wing that can knock down shots, use his athleticism to impact the game on the glass, and use his scoring craft around the rim to score through contact or draw the foul to shoot FTs that get him into a shooting rhythm. But he's now using that scoring gravity and an improved handle to make good reads as a passer from the wing to hit opposite or feed the post. Briscoe raced out to throw down two dunks in transition, cocked an offensive rebound behind his head to throw down a putback dunk, dribbled into a transition 3, and has added weight to enable him to bang with forwards at the defensive end of the floor in the paint. If he can continue to sharpen his handle to navigate in tight spaces and add a bit more back foot pop as a slasher-- he should turn heads with college coaches as a wing that can do it all.
