Dakotas Players to Know From the Spring

The spring club basketball season has a way of sorting things out. The talent rises, the competitors show themselves, and the players worth knowing make sure you don't forget their names. This spring, North Dakota and South Dakota have produced a group of hoopers who have done exactly that.   From early morning tip offs to late bracket games, these players have put in the work and let their game do the talking. They come from different programs and different backgrounds, but they all have one thing in common — they know how to play, and people have noticed. Hilt was named All-State in a loaded Class A. Brady can shoot the wings off a fly but also slash for buckets and score at the cup like a fleet-footed athlete. Hilt does it all on the offensive end; his game will only get better moving forward.     Mr. Hart has a solid spring with the Heat. Charlie hoops with a great attitude and he plays hard all of the time. Excellent teammate and an asset to the team. Hart is a rebounding machine! He is also a versatile defender who guards multiple positions and scores on the interior.     Thompson had a nice spring and looked good as a quick & scrappy point guard. He attacks the paint fearlessly off the dribble. Christian continues to improve his ability to make teammates better because of his court vision and verbal leadership. Thompson has shown the potential to be a legit floor general. Christian will be new at Sheyenne as he is transferring from Mandan.     The sharpshooter and skilled lead guard has a good spring with the Comets. Rickard will be at the prestigious MBCA Showcase this weekend; that alone is a testament to how talented Crew is. He has shot it really well this spring and has been able to tap into his playmaking ability. A splashy senior season is ahead for Rickard.     Mr. Boyd has a strong spring while showing flashes of brilliance. Najeh was recently named to the NHR State 17U All-Tournament 1st Team. That was great recognition; he was in great company with that honor. Boyd is a mobile athlete and a smooth shooter from 3point land. He is opportunistic in transition and is a mobile slasher who finishes well around the basket. Look for Najeh to have a productive June with BHS and to make more noise with [program_tooltip program_id='2075741' first='ND' last='Phenom'] later this summer.     Noah has fit right in with D1MN and the talented group surrounding him; his game has been on full display this spring. He stretches the floor with the ability to knock down threes but can also get to the rim and finish above it, playing high above the rim and making it look effortless in the process. On the defensive end, his timing and shot-blocking ability continue to give opposing offenses fits, and what makes him special is his versatility. Noah can guard a big man down low or step out and defend a guard, and his length and athleticism allow him to do both at a high level even among a group of gifted athletes. The combination of size, athleticism, and skill he brings is rarely found in one player at his age. He moves fluidly on the floor, finishes strong around the rim, and his pull-up mid-range jumper has taken a noticeable step forward this spring. Noah is maturing into a complete player, and the best is still ahead of him.     Azza has shown intriguing signs of being a reliable and playmaking ball player. He rebounded very well on O & D this spring and played solid defense. Obama locked in on the defensive side; he blocked and altered shots at an impressive rate. Azza also runs the floor well and finishes at the rim in transition.     Tanner has had a great spring. SSA is looking forward to seeing how he finishes up the summer. Tanner is very versatile, as he can play the 3-5 positions. He shoots the 3 well and has very good footwork in the paint, making him hard to guard. Tanner is also able to guard most players on the defensive end, making him a very valuable piece to any team.     He is the top player on the GF Heat squad. The quick and speedy lefty shot it consistently and hot this spring. Scott proved that he is a leader while showing improvement in his creativity and ability to make plays for others. Tayshawn is becoming an all-around player and he rebounds well for his position. His quick hands and feet cause problems on defense. His 3-shooting and facilitating have been impressive. Keep eyes on this up-and-coming baller from GFC.     Harildstad has been very effective scoring at all 3 levels and has been super crafty finishing at the rim. He's also been a force on defense, usually starting on the other team's best offensive player. Zakai is also a great leader and does a phenomenal job talking on both ends of the floor, something most kids aren't willing to do!     This athletic Spud is new to Heat, but he fits in with the team like a glove on and off the court. Swenson is a natural leader and is very coachable. Zander scores the rock from 3-levels and rebounds like he is 6'2".
