What’s Going On? Recruiting, Summer Standouts

<!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>As we approach the end of May, here is what's happening around New Mexico high school basketball:</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><strong>Recruiting</strong></p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>-- 2027 Volcano Vista superstar G/F <strong>[player_tooltip player_id='2111977' first='David' last='Lunn']</strong> was offered by Iona. Lunn, recently named the Gatorade Player of the Year, led Volcano Vista to its fifth straight Class 5A title and the Hawks will be one of the favorites again in 20267-27 with Lunn leading the way as a senior. &nbsp;&nbsp;</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>-- 2026 Logan F/C <strong>Hayden Bruhn</strong> was offered by the University of the Southwest in Hobbs. Bruhn averaged 22.2 points and 10.1 rebounds per game this past season for the Longhorns, who reached the Class 1A state championship game for the second straight year.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>-- 2026 Artesia F/C <strong>Clay Kincaid</strong> (6-8) committed to Division II Southwestern Oklahoma State. Kincaid was a huge factor for Artesia the past two seasons. The Bulldogs won the Class 4A state title in 2025 and finished runner-up in 2026. SWOSU is located in Weatherford, OK.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>-- 2026 ABC Prep guard <strong>Gabe Trujillo</strong> was offered by McPherson College in Kansas.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><strong>Summer AAU</strong></p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>-- 2027 Mayfield guard <strong>[player_tooltip player_id='2381046' first='Christian' last='Covarrubia']</strong> enjoyed an outstanding weekend in El Paso at the Bordertown Memorial Classic for the New Mexico Supersonics coached by Trojans assistant Josiah Herrera. In four games, Covarrubia scored a total of 95 points (23.8 ppg) and displayed deadeye accuracy from 3-point range. He averaged about five 3-pointers per game. Covarrubia is showing he will be one of the top scorers in New Mexico during the 2026-27 season as Mayfield aims for its second straight state tournament appearance.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>-- 2027 La Cueva combo guard <strong>[player_tooltip player_id='2822061' first='Payton' last='Fuller']</strong> averaged 15.0 points per game at the Bigfoot Memorial Classic in Las Vegas this past weekend. He scored 20 points in the fourth game.
