The Saturday afternoon schedule had several 17u games on tap that were major prospect games for me to watch due to some high energy performances and sleeper standouts making their presence known. Let's examine the skillets of some 17u guards who played on Saturday afternoon and made their way onto my radar for this summer. Playmaking, shooting, and hustle play were all key attributes of players mentioned here in my scouting report!

Christian was one of the most complete players at Space City Collision with a well-rounded game that included active defense, three level scoring, and elite playmaking. He crashed the boards well from the weak side as a tall guard and helped out with playmaking duties in the clutch. His scoring was mostly going to the basket and finishing through layups, but he showed ability to pull up off a dribble as well.

[player_tooltip player_id='2048875' first='Matthew' last='Cook'] was probably the best shooter I was able to watch on Saturday at the tournament as he consistently knocked down shot after shot in a valuable win over TXP 17u for CenLa Hoops. Cook is capable of lighting up the defense off the dribble or spotting up off the catch and shoot. He has good court awareness and knows how to cut to the basket or find himself in the corner pocket and sit there waiting for the opportune time to shoot with a clean look.

Pitts showcased sound decision making and speed blazing past defenders when put in isolation on offense. Treyshawn made several tough jumpers over the outstretched arms of defenders and had several dime-dropping assists to open teammates that had good looks at the basket. His hustle and speed on both ends helped TXP 17u in the clutch to capture momentum and get some key stops/buckets.

Will is a high-energy point guard who can make plays for 1 Nation with his high IQ and decision making on offense and quickness on defense. Abney gets to his spots and is an expert at creating his own shot off the dribble and can draw fouls with constant efficiency and at a high rate. Will uses quickness out of the triple threat to beat his matchup to the rim and either converts layups or does a quick drive and dish to an open shooter on the perimeter. Abney has been stacking up several offers over the past month or so and looks to be one of the hottest unsigned seniors out of Houston currently.

Javier is a lengthy and shifty guard who uses his height to his advantage and takes advantage of smaller defenders, scoring from all three levels and being a willing playmaker who sets up good looks for his team. He had several blocks in the paint using his wingspan and athleticism to come down with rebounds off his own blocks and start the fastbreak in transition as the lead guard. Alanis can shoot from three when left open and doesn't hesitate to move without the ball in his hands, freeing up space on the perimeter.
