He spots up well from all three levels, plays aggressive defense, and has great court vision. He is capable of getting hot in a hurry and he has a smooth pull up off the dribble. You will often find him in the corner pocket ready to catch and shoot off a crisp pass from one of his teammates driving and dishing the ball.

Size and IQ translate to the next level and with the current STM Roster they will surely make noise in the state rankings. Not flashy, but his consistent style of play is next level ready. Coaches will be watching STM and Cook is one to keep an eye on.

On the perimeter he was able to get his looks from catch and shoot situations, being on the move within the offensive flow and off the dribble pulling into his spots. When shooting effectively it was evident that he had good shooting mechanics.

Matthew Cook Matthew Cook 6'1" | SG/PG STM | 2027 State LA was probably the best shooter I was able to watch on Saturday at the tournament as he consistently knocked down shot after shot in a valuable win over TXP 17u for CenLa Hoops. Cook is capable of lighting up the defense off the dribble or spotting up off the catch and shoot. He has good court awareness and knows how to cut to the basket or find himself in the corner pocket and sit there waiting for the opportune time to shoot with a clean look.

Matthew Cook’s ability to light it up beyond the arc in catch-and-shoot situations is a tough skill to match, particularly in strong-side drive-and-kick actions where he consistently makes defenses pay. He’s been a deadly corner three-point marksman with textbook shooting form and well-aligned mechanics. Not only does Cook spot up effectively, but he also slides into the catch on two feet with balance, allowing for a quick and fluid release with no wasted motion, making him a constant spacing threat.

Poised and steady, Matthew was a key piece in leading his team to a double digit halftime lead versus a scrappy Houston Raptors 16u squad. Cook was cookin in the 1st half scoring an efficient 10 points helping to build a 17 point halftime lead.

Matthew is a solid catch and shoot player from beyond the 3 point line. Cook started his first 5 on 5 game drilling two consecutive 3-pointers.  Far from just an offensive threat, Matthew will step over and take a charge on the defensive end!
