Mayhem in the Plex: Friday Night 16U Standouts

The Prep Hoops Mayhem in the Plex brought together a deep and competitive 16U field, creating a weekend filled with high-level matchups, breakout performances, and emerging talent. From dynamic guard play to versatile wings and physical interior presence, the 16U division had no shortage of talent and intensity throughout the weekend.    Bucket getter. He got downhill with in-and-outs while shifting gears and attacking his defender's top foot, consistently creating angles to the basket. Extraordinary athlete with good body control, pop, and burst, leaving his feet effortlessly even through traffic while taking off from distance. His takeoff speed was tough to contain, creating multiple possessions where he blew by defenders with his first step and lengthy strides that got him to the rim in just two or three bounces. Good playmaking ability, a true offensive engine who could control the game as both a scorer and facilitator. Unselfish with the ball, willing to give up a good shot for a great one, allowing the defense to react before threading passes to cutters or shooters.     Pure paint-touch guard, he lived in the lane and at the free throw line all night, consistently getting himself into the teeth of the defense for high-percentage looks for himself or a teammate, creating fouls in isolation and dumping it off when drawing two defenders. His ability to dissect a defense set the tone for the game, influencing his teammates to attack until the defense made adjustments. He showed a go-to spin move that seemed to work more times than not, often giving him a direct angle to the rack and forcing help rotations.     Mobley showed a strong motor with an instinctive feel for the game to match. Crafty movements, understanding when to counter, showing smooth handles in one-on-one situations while creating for himself efficiently. His scoring came within the flow of things, nailing catch-and-shoot three-point opportunities, finishing straight-line drives, and flushing dunks in transition, impacting the game in multiple ways offensively.     Power finisher under the rim. Whether converting dump-downs or cleaning up a miss for a putback layup, he did it all with authority and aggression while exploding off two feet. Dives, cuts, and flashes at the most opportune times, constantly making himself available around the basket. Defensively, physicality and motor are what kept him on the floor, hitting a body every time a shot went up or crashing hard on the glass. He also never gave up on a play, trying to end every possession with a steal, block, or rebound, always finding a way to get a hand on the ball.     Hard-wired lefty who got downhill with ease, showing the ability to scoop and score with up-and-unders while using impeccable touch to convert from tough angles through traffic and around shot blockers. Always knew how to get the rock back to his left and continue his momentum to the basket, keeping defenders off balance with his pacing and craft.
