A mix of familiar names and new faces stood out with strong performances and impactful play. Here's a quick look at some of the day one eye-catchers who made their presence felt.

[player_tooltip player_id='3627634' first='Johnny' last='Wilson'] leads off my list of day one eye-catchers from the Big Shots Myrtle Beach Jam. Wilson is a long and lanky local prospect out of Carolina Forest High School who excels at making things happen on both ends of the floor. [program_tooltip program_id='2298066' first='The' last='Private Snipaz'] won the 16U Slam Championship this weekend and Wilson was the Tournament MVP, thanks to 16 points in the final game, but I caught up with them in their first-round matchup with District 5 Premier when Johnny racked up 20 points, 5 rebounds, 5 assists, and 5 steals. This was as impressive a box score as I saw all day long, but the eye test matched it as he locked down his matchup, made the right play offensively, and had a few highlight plays mixed in too.

Another new, exciting wing who I was introduced to this weekend is Wiggins. Ellis was an All-Region selection at Timberland High School in 2025-26, but he was much more of a perimeter threat in a Raptor jersey this weekend in Myrtle Beach. He had 22 points on 6 3PM in a matchup with Fayetteville Elite on Saturday afternoon, including some crucial ones in the second half from deep range and through contests. Wiggins also displayed comfort making plays off closeouts like a baseline floater and a one-dribble pull-up, so if he continues to shoot the ball well and add strength to his length, he could quickly become a Top 10 Wing in South Carolina's 2028 Class.

Carmello has been a name on my radar for some time now. He's been a true winning player and glue guy for Wilson High School and [program_tooltip program_id='2830220' first='Palmetto' last='Pride'] over the last six months, and Saturday's win over Team Charleston was just another in a long line of those types of performances. He stepped up with 6 points, 7 rebounds, 3 assists, and 2 steals, doing a little bit of everything thanks to tons of activity and a size advantage. All six points came on the offensive glass, and two of his three assists came on passes within the offense from the perimeter.

Tyler is a player with some promising physical tools down in the Lowcountry. He has a plus wingspan and athletic first and second jumps - both of which make him an effective weapon around the rim on each end of the floor. Chatman-Ackerman can defend multiple positions with that length and solid ability to move his feet. He was also quite active without the ball in his hands as a rebounder and a cutter, so if he adds a go-to scoring move or two, he could be a really nice piece.

This 2027 SG is the second Charleston Raptor on this list. Dozier continues to prove himself as one of the best two-way guards in his class, and he has the freedom of being the top off-ball scoring option on this team. I had him stated with 12 points at the eight-minute mark and the game in hand. He knocked down a pair of threes, had a mid-range jumper, and scored a pair of buckets in transition off of forced turnovers. This Raptors squad is a very well-built team, so look for them to continue to make some noise heading into the summer.

Rounding out my day one eye-catchers from the Big Shots Myrtle Beach Jam is [player_tooltip player_id='2642304' first='JaNolan' last='Mathis']. Mathis is one of the more intriguing prospects in the rising senior class, but this is one of the first times I've seen him in an extended role. He had an impressive start to [program_tooltip program_id='2231960' first='Big' last='Shots SC'] Premier's win over CTE. JaNolan expressed his potential with a catch-and-shoot three, a designed curl for a right-handed layup, a transition dunk, and a transition left-wing three. If he continues to shoot it this well, and you factor in his long, 6'5" frame, the college coaches will come knocking for Mathis.
