I drove out to Mishawaka, Indiana to take in Adidas 3SSB's second session full of talent from the high school age groups. I got a chance to see each local group and will cover the top underclassmen backcourt standouts from the event that stood out for a variety of reasons. Some impressed at the defensive end of the floor, some stood out with improved aspects of their game, and others' star shown brightest at the defensive end of the floor. Let's dive in!

-Continue to come away impressed with Brown's play as a crafty guard that effectively gets to his spots in the halfcourt with or without a ball screen. He scored off of pull-ups in the paint, froze a helping big at the rim with an up fake before hitting him with a spin move and left-handed layup off the glass, hit euro step layups in transition to use the rim to deter bigs from blocking his shot, and did a good job of locating shooters

21p 2r 1a 2s vs Dream Vision

-The electric scoring guard impressed this weekend with his usual offensive production but is also ramping up his effort at the defensive end of the floor. The rising junior guard is leading all of the 3SSB circuit in steals with 3.4/game by timing change of direction in opposing ballhandlers and finding opportunities to swoop in to force a live dribble turnover or backtap opponents to start a fastbreak heading the other way. Fox threw down a poster dunk in transition, showed an ability to score off the bounce from all 3 levels, slithers his way to the paint in transition, and consistently earned multiple trips to the FT line in each game. Expect his recruitment to pick up during the scholastic live periods this summer.

19p 2s vs Indiana Elite

-I like Morrison's ability to impact the game as a slashing guard that can score in the paint on pull-ups or floaters or off the ball as a movement shooter that doesn't need a ton of space to get off his shot. Morrison hit five 3s against Indiana Elite by moving to find open pockets within the defense, hitting shots from either corner off of designed crack-backs or by simply lifting to the wings opposite a baseline driver to find open pockets in the defense. Morrison has a good feel for the pace that he needs to play with in the short roll and will make the simple play to teammates to avoid turnovers in traffic. One of the best and most unheralded prospects in DC Public School basketball, should shine in a bigger role with Tech Prep this summer and upcoming season.

-Came away impressed with the mental toughness to continue grinding through a weekend where there wasn't a ton of team success. Olorungbohunmi averaged 15p 4r 1a 2s on the weekend while shooting 43% from the field and from 3 and 75% from the line. He uses a strong frame to bully his way to the basket, turns defense into offense by switching ends quickly, and serves as an invaluable switchable defender at the 15u level for his squad. He often found himself chesting up with bigs, rotating out to shooters, and guarding ballhandlers at the top of the key while playing pretty heavy minutes for his group.

-Igwe will be a big mover in our next set of updated rankings after a good showing in the last two games of the weekend with B2B 11p performances. Igwe flashed a diverse skillset as a 2/3 tweener that can hit open perimeter shots, crash the glass to score off putbacks or extend possessions for his team, and guard multiple positions. If he can outwork teammates and opponents consistently with his energy, he could be a big piece to the puzzle for a Washington Warriors group that can really use that in their lineup.
