The May live period always brings another level of intensity. Gyms were packed with college coaches, every possession mattered a little more, and players across the state used the weekend as an opportunity to elevate their recruitment. Virginia continues to produce talent at a high level, and several prospects took advantage of the setting by putting together strong performances against quality competition.

Whether it was scoring in bunches, impacting games with athleticism, or showing versatility on both ends of the floor, these players consistently separated themselves throughout the weekend.

[player_tooltip player_id='2470583' first='Trey' last='Barnhart'] continues to show why he's viewed as one of the more dangerous offensive weapons in Virginia's 2027 class. The [program_tooltip program_id='2226248' first='Boo' last='Williams'] EYCL guard has developed a reputation as one of the state's premier shooters, but his game extends well beyond simply knocking down perimeter shots.

At roughly 6-foot-3, Barnhart plays with confidence and understands how to score from all three levels. Defenders have to respect his ability to stretch the floor because he can catch fire quickly, but he also does a good job putting the ball on the deck and attacking closeouts. During one of his stronger outings this live period, he finished with 21 points, five assists, five rebounds, and three steals while shooting 50 percent from the field.

What stands out most is his ability to impact the game without forcing things offensively. He doesn't need high volume or difficult possessions to put up numbers. He moves well without the basketball, reads defenders effectively, and consistently finds ways to create quality opportunities for himself and others.

Barnhart has already become a recognizable name around Virginia, but weekends like this continue to reinforce why college programs should remain locked in on his progression moving forward.

Few players may have improved their stock more during the live period than Trenton Smalling.

Competing at the 3SSB Gold Session in Round Rock, Texas, Smalling played a major role in helping [program_tooltip program_id='3424568' first='Team' last='Loaded Gold'] finish the weekend 4-0 and secure spots in both the Gold Finals and 3SSB Finals. Against high-level competition, he consistently delivered.

Smalling averaged nearly 17 points, five rebounds, and 3.5 steals per game while bringing energy and explosiveness every time he stepped on the floor. His athletic ability immediately jumps out, but what made his weekend impressive was how much more there was to his game than highlight plays.

He thrives in transition and is one of the better open-floor athletes in Virginia. Once he gets downhill, defenders are often put in difficult situations because of his speed, body control, and ability to finish above the rim. He also showed the ability to score from multiple areas on the floor, proving he isn't simply relying on athleticism.

Defensively, his activity level created problems throughout the weekend. His length and quickness allowed him to jump passing lanes and create extra possessions.

Smalling entered the event with plenty of upside, but he left Round Rock looking like one of the more intriguing prospects in the state's 2027 class.

Connor Wilcox quietly put together one of the more productive weekends of the live period while competing at Hoop Group.

The physical wing averaged around 20 points per game and proved to be a major piece in Team Richmond's success throughout the event. What makes Wilcox intriguing is the versatility he brings offensively. He can score in multiple ways and doesn't rely on one specific area of his game.

He showed the ability to knock down perimeter shots, attack downhill through contact, and finish around the basket. His physical style also allows him to create advantages against opposing wings. He doesn't shy away from contact and plays with a toughness that consistently shows up throughout games.

Beyond the scoring numbers, Wilcox simply looked comfortable in important moments. He played with confidence and made winning plays while helping his team put together a strong weekend.

As recruiting continues to develop, he feels like a prospect that college coaches should continue monitoring closely over the coming months.

[player_tooltip player_id='3275784' first='Donovan' last='Stinney'] has steadily become one of the more intriguing stock risers throughout the spring, and the live period only added to that momentum.

Standing around 6-foot-8 with length, athleticism, and versatility, Stinney presents a lot of upside on both sides of the floor. He consistently impacts games in areas that don't always show up in the box score.

Offensively, he was highly effective around the rim and did a great job finishing in screen-and-roll situations. His athleticism allows him to play above the rim, and he runs the floor extremely well for a player his size. He creates pressure on opposing defenses simply because of the vertical spacing he provides.

Defensively is where his value may stand out the most right now.

Stinney protects the rim at a high level and has the ability to alter shots even when he isn't recording blocks. Opposing players routinely have to adjust attempts around him because of his length and timing. He anchors the paint well and provides an interior presence that impacts winning.

As his offensive game continues to expand and develop, Stinney has all the tools to continue climbing recruiting boards moving forward.

Virginia's 2027 class continues to show impressive depth, and the May live period provided another reminder of that. Players across multiple circuits and events stepped into the spotlight, and these four were among those who took full advantage of their opportunities. With the summer calendar still ahead, expect plenty more names to continue emerging.
