sits at the top of the board in the state. He backed it up with a strong junior season leading the Raiders with his ability to scorer from all three levels effectively. Silky smooth wing that is primed and ready to take the next step in his game nationally as he is already considered a top 25 player in America. We caught up with Pettigrew where he discussed his sophomore season at Bolingbrook.
“I learned a lot. It was my first time playing that big of a role for my high school team. Even though we lost I don't think it was a failure season. Everyone learned something and we had some older guys that can take that into college. When I come back I can use my experience. We played those big games against Neuqua. When we get in those situations I will be ready. It was a great season and I am looking forward to the next one.”
This spring and summer he is rolling with Brad Beal Elite 16U. He walked us through the decision to join the St. Louis based program who is coming off a Peach Jam crown.
“My guy Brandin Brown who has coached me since kindergarten I found out wasn't coming back so that was a big factor. Plus I get to learn from Bradley Beal who will be the 16U coach. Getting to learn from a guy that plays my position that was big for me. He has taught me a lot with my footwork and keeping my hand under the ball. Little stuff like that which separates good players from great players. That is the stuff you can't find anywhere else.”
What is the latest with recruiting?
“Duke has really kicked in. Illinois and Kansas are definitely involved. I have some other schools that are going to get feedback from how I play at USA Mini Camp. I want to touch base more with Kansas. I have talked with them, but would like to learn more. BYU is doing great with the communication. Also I would like to hear more from Tennessee. They came to my school, but we haven't really talked since.”
