2027 Albuquerque Academy guard Zac Borrego has grown up in an elite basketball family, so it's little surprise he has developed into a legitimate Division I caliber prospect.

Borrego, who father is long-time NBA coach James Borrego (Charlotte Hornets, New Orlans Pelicans), enjoyed a solid junior season at Albuquerque Academy. His performance paid dividends recently with offers to Northern Arizona (Big Sky Conference) and Illinois-Chicago (Missouri Valley).

Previously, Borrego was offered by Southern Utah (re-joining Big Sky in 2026-27) and Northern New Mexico College.

Borrego returned to Albuquerque last summer after spending the 2024-25 season at Metairie Park (La.) Country Day. He has gained a well-deserved reputation in recruiting circles as a reliable knock down shooter from multiple spots on the floor and an excellent ball handler with a high basketball IQ. He is fundamentally sound and rarely makes mistakes.

In March, he scored 15 points to lead Albuquerque Academy to a first-round win over Goddard in the Class 4A state tournament. He was named First-Team All-District in 4A-6.

More Recruiting News: In late March, 2027 Volcano Vista star [player_tooltip player_id='2111977' first='David' last='Lunn'] was offered by Montana three days after being named the 2025-26 Gatorade Player of the Year for New Mexico. In mid-March, Lunn led the Hawks to their fifth consecutive Class 5A state championship.

Lunn brought his A-Game to the state tournament. He scored 24 points, made 12-of-17 free throws and grabbed 5 rebounds in Volcano Vista's semifinals win over La Cueva. Two days later, Lunn scored 23 points on 8-of-10 shooting from the floor and 7-of-7 from the FT line as the Hawks beat Cleveland at the Pit for the title.

The offer from Montana gives Lunn an opportunity to possibly reunite with former teammate Kenyon Aguino, a three-time Gatorade Player of Year in New Mexico who averaged 8.4 points and 4.2 rebounds per game for the Grizzlies as a freshman in 2025-26. Lunn was offered by West Virginia in May 2024 following his freshman season.

Also, 2026 Cimarron guard [player_tooltip player_id='2715962' first='Urijah' last='Martinez'] committed to New Mexico Highlands. Martinez was one of the top players in Northern New Mexico during the 2025-26 season and led Cimarron to the semifinals of the Class 1A state tournament. Martinez is also an outstanding baseball player and has been offered by Ottawa University (AZ) in that sport. He scored a career high 42 points against Springer in late January.

Martinez was also offered by Dean College, Sterling College and Palo Verde Community College.
